By now the sun had sunk and had been replaced by a bright moon. The tension in the room had gone up. Tricia and Craig had an awful feeling in their guts telling them that something was wrong with Kenny McCormick.
"How did you get in here without us hearing anything," Craig asked him still untrusting of the strange kid. Kenny ignored his question and carried on with what he was saying.
"I'm not sure what's going on here but I do know for every missing child there is another bird hung up here" Kenny explains to the two of them pointing at the array of birds hung up on the wall.
"Why didn't you take the birds down if you knew they were here?" Tricia points out suspicion and curiosity in her voice.
"Because then whoever is doing this will know we were here," Kenny Tells the two of them pacing around the room. He opened his mouth to say something else but
Unexpectedly the door to the meat locker opened."Hey what are you kids doing in here!" A man with a scruffy beard shouted at them while wringing the water out of his sweater vest. The man stomped over to them each step he took making the kids even more anxious. They were all frozen still with fear. Fear of what would happen to them if they stayed in that room. Would the man hang them up on the wall like those birds or would they be killed and put on the ceiling like the chunks of meat above them?
Despite the fear, Craig and Tricia ran past the man and out the door at speeds they never thought their small legs could go. It had been raining but they didn't care if they got muddy or wet they just wanted to get out of there.Tricia stopped suddenly "Hey were did Kenny go?" Tricia asked Looking behind them, worried about what had happened to the kid.
"Don't know don't care" Craig tells his sister.
————"We were so worried about you after you didn't come home! Clyde came over looking for you two but when he came you weren't here now he's waiting in your room!" Thomas Tucker scolds them for being out till sun down.
"And now your clothes are all muddy and wet!" Lauren adds.
"But dad we went into this meat loc—" before Tricia could finish her sentence Craig pulled on her ear signaling that she shouldn't tell their parents about the incident.
"I mean sorry dad" Tricia tells him, eyes locked on the floor.
"Good. Now go to your room"In their room was Clyde sitting with his back up against their bunk bed.
"Oh hey, Craig! I asked my parents if I could stay over at your house for a sleepover and they said yes! Oh hi, Tricia" Clyde tells Craig excitedly rummaging through the brown bag next to him that Craig assumed was filled with his pajamas and other essentials he would need for staying at his house.
"I took this doll from my sister for you to play with. I know how much you like dolls" Clyde reveals to Craig gripping the doll around its waist holding it out for Craig to take.
"Doll? Dolls! Dolls are for girls Craig!" Tricia says laughing like there was no tomorrow. Tricia's laughing wouldn't ruin Craig's mood though. Although he was feeling a little embarrassed that his sister now knew the secret that he had told Clyde about liking dolls he still felt overjoyed that he had a new toy. The doll was pretty, to say the least. She had shiny black hair that shimmered in the light of the lamp on Craig's desk and a blue floral patterned dress with red hemming. Craig took the doll from Clyde's hands and put it on the top bunk where he slept."Tricia when summers over and we go back to school you better not tell anyone about this" Craig threatens knowing full well if he didn't tell her she would tell everyone.
Craig and Tricia felt all the tension from the previous events wash away they were no longer in a meat locker with a stranger instead they were in a familiar setting with friends and family.
"Thanks for this Clyde," he tells him referring to the doll.
"You're welcome. I was planning on playing some games but it's pretty late now" Clyde took his sleeping bag out of the bag and laid it out on the floorThe two siblings went to their bunk beds Craig on the bottom Tricia on top. Craig played with the doll's hair curling it's hair around his finger as he stared into its lifeless brown eyes.
"You look nice," he says to the doll before falling asleep.
"Did you sleep well you three?" Thomas asks them. They nod their head.
"Tricia, Craig remember that you to have to do your volunteer work today at four," Lauren tells the two siblings much to their displeasure.
The three munched on their cereal."Mom dad, can me, Clyde, and Tricia go play outside?" Craig asks them.
"Sure but make sure this won't end up like last night. You have an hour. Sorry Clyde you can't go though we need to drive you home at ten" Lauren tells them handing them keys to the house.
"Let's Head back to the cellar" Tricia suggests pointing off into the distance where they first saw it.
"No Tricia remember what we saw last time" Craig said shocked that Tricia would even suggest going back. He gripped the dolls torso tightly, recalling the traumatic events of yesterday.
How his blood had ran cold when the door had been opened to cold sweat he had when he saw the birds. He knew Tricia had felt it two so why on earth would she be motivated to go back. Craig crosses his arms showing no sign of willingness to go.
"No way we're going back ya loony"
