"A robbery?" Charlie asked. She widened her eyes convincingly. I looked around nervously. The others returned my looks.
"Yes, do you mind if we take this conversation inside?" Victor asked. We went inside, all of us squeezing onto the couch while Victor introduced the man as Aaron, his trainee. I sat between Charlie and Nicole on the couch, my sides brushing against theirs.
"We were on patrol, guarding Eleanor's house when we came across two criminals." Victor said as he made himself busy searching the room. Aaron disappeared into another room.
"Who were they?" I asked in curiosity.
"Just some humans. But that wasn't the interesting part." Victor said, pausing slightly for effect. "They had been knocked out by a sleeping spell. Our guess is that a warlock was already there and when the would be thieves came knocking that warlock knocked them out."
"You think a warlock tried to rob another warlock?" Lauren asked, keeping a straight face.
"Yes, that's our theory, and when I informed the council they asked that we search your room, just in case." Victor said as he disappeared into another room.
"Be our guest." Charlie said. Victor quickly finished searching the rooms.
"I'm really sorry about this." Victor said as he stood awkwardly by the door. "I tried to convince them that nothing would come of it but they insisted." Victor said grimly.
"No worries, we understand you're just doing your job." Lauren said. Victor sighed. Aaron came out of the room he was searching.
"Nothing here." He said. Victor nodded.
"You go tell the council. I'll wait here for you to get back." Victor said. Aaron nodded as he dissolved before our very eyes. Once he had vanished Victor turned to us.
"I don't know what's gotten into the council lately, they're usually reasonable." Victor shook his head.
"Since there's nothing here I have to search your brothers too." Victor said. It was in that moment, I don't know how, but I knew that he knew. He looked at us in silence for a few moments.
"I suggest you tell your brother to get rid of what ever he took before we find it. Or at least hide it well." Victor said as he stared at Lauren. Lauren looked at him warily for a few seconds before nodding and whipping out her phone.
"You aren't going to tell them are you?" Charlie asked quietly. Victor shook his head.
Lauren put her phone away just as Aaron reappeared. Victor stood beside Aaron.
"Will Mister Miller be home?" Victor asked Charlie. Charlie looked up, like a child trying to solve a difficult math problem. She looked cute when she did that. I looked away.
"Yes, he has today off work." She replied.
"Good." He said before turning to Aaron. "Grab my arm, I'll lead you there." Victor said. Aaron grabbed his arm and they both disappeared. I turned to Charlie.
"Wait, I thought you said you can't take people with you when you do that?" I asked.
"We can't take non warlocks with us." Charlie clarified. I nodded.
"I gotta go and grab the violin. I'll be back in a minute." Lauren said as she stood up. She was gone in seconds. We waited with bated breath for thirty seconds before Lauren materialized before us, this time holding the violin. She raised it triumphantly above her head silently.
"What now? Do I hide it?" Lauren asked. Charlie and I looked at each other.
"I guess?" I said.
Lauren went into one of the bedrooms and dropped to the ground, sliding the violin under the bed. Lauren jumped back up and turned to us.
