I woke up that day, expecting nothing. I came to New York to work as an editor for a great travel magazine.
I was so determined to be one, I still am. But you know I'm just trying to make the best of it.
I usually wake up at 7, and procastinate till about 7:30, it's such a difficult thing to prevent me from procastinating. I'm sure that it's difficult for everyone, but trust me, I'm the master.
And then I get ready to go to work, for now I work at this Media relations firm, it's a good job, but you know, it doesn't really justify me, and then about 4, I go to my other job, the coffee shop, I love it there.
You know, working there makes me feel good, when I'm there I usually forget my troubles and I just have a good time there.
So when I said that my day job doesn't really justify me, it wasn't because I was unhappy there , I just have other ambitions.
Anyway, so that day, like I said, I woke up expecting nothing, I had gotten all ready for work.
I wore a white t-shirt and blue jeans with a denim jacket, you know, kickin' it old school, obviously because I am old soul. I find happiness in small things, like the rain, the wind, the people kissing each other passionately in the streets, I'm weirdo.
I caught the 9:15 subway and reached office on time, which was good news to my boss.
My boss, Josie is a good human, and I'm not saying this just because she gave me a big project to work on, but because she understands my need to work there and also I work there because they pay me good.
I got off work and then rushed to my safe haven,
'La Musique Café' which literally means 'music coffee or café', I know you may think it's stupid but once you get there you'll understand.
La Musique is the most beautiful place in New York, it's downtown, but if you love coffee and food and music, that place is your jam.
Sam owns the place, I'm kinda like a manager there.
Sam's amazing, he's a great friend, he's one of my only friends in the entire New York.
I've always been a people's person, but I never liked it so I decided to not go by everybody else's rules and thus, here I am.
I had told Sam that I'd come in late that afternoon, and he just said,
" Take all the time you want , C. I'll be right here."
He's a great guy. I don't know what I'd do here without him. He's family.
I put my apron on and started making coffee, it was a lovely afternoon, the café was surprisingly full that day, like really, it was packed, but I didn't mind.
Sam never really objected or showed discomfort in my choice of music, therefore, in the café, I always lined up my playlist, and the people loved it.
Around 7, the café was quite , not entirely, but yeah most of the people had left.
Sam and I , we were just chatting away. We always had infinite topics to talk about. And then entered Doug, he was a regular at the café and I'd say that we were friends, kinda.
But that particular evening, Doug wasn't alone, he had company. Usually, when he came into the café, he came alone or bought his girlfriends.
The guy that had come in with Doug, it was so good to look at him. His eyes were shiny, like they had a lot to say, but they couldn't.
I was intrigued.
