Chapter 10

"Your neck..." Spooky pushed my hair back to get a better look. We were parked on the other side of the street from home. I looked in the rear view mirror and gulped. Big bruises were forming around my neck, from when the guy choked me, right before he died. I closed my eyes and little out a shaky breath. 

"It was self defence, all of it." Spooky stated firmly as he looked straight into my eyes whilst holding my shoulder. 

"No, I know" I replied "What happens now?"

"Don't worry about it mami. If anyone asks, you weren't there, got it?" He gave a small smile and took out a cigarette. 

I nodded and was relieved, being taken out of this situation was all I wanted. I opened the car door, grabbed my backpack and was about to step out when he grabbed my arm.

"You saved my life and the homies', we wont forget that." He stated.

"Yeah that was kinda an accident, homie." I replied and his eyes widened for a second before looking away and chuckling to himself.

"I don't know what you're on but I want some." He laughed as I stepped out and walked towards the house. Now that was a statement I'd heard a lot. 

I walked into my room and found Ruby sleeping as was everyone else. I sighed in relief, I did not want to deal with him right now. I dropped my bag and took my shoes off then lay straight into bed. I gave into the exhaustion and fell asleep almost instantly. 

"Are you sure she's alive?" I heard a familiar voice whisper.

"Yeah I checked her breathing first thing, it was stable." another familiar voice whispered back.

"What do you think happened? Someone choked her?"

I opened my eyes to find Ruby and Jamal standing over me. 

"Can we not overreact? I'll explain but can someone just get me some painkillers" I groaned.

The both stared at each other for a second then Ruby nodded and went to get the pills.

"Holy... mama." Jamal finally said, both had been sitting in a dramatic shock for a whole minute after I went through last night's events. 

"What do I do about this?" I motioned to the bruises on my neck. 

"Give me 5 minutes and some concealer, I got it sorted" Ruby shrugged. 

And he wasn't joking, You could not see them at all once he was done.  To which he replied, "Its what I do."

 I was inspecting my neck whilst he checked his text. 

"Um so Cesar just texted, we're invited over and Spooky is cooking." He stared at me wide eyed. Wait whose cooking?
