What Do You Hope?

We went to our doctor to get the first ultrasound, we waited in the small room, I laid down on the crinkly paper. Tom took a seat next to me he held my small hand in both of his, lifting it to his lips and giving it a soft kiss. I loved the way he was trying to keep calm.

"What do you hope it will be?" I asked.

"I'm not quite sure." He said, "I know that I will love him or her just the same." He stroked my cheek with his long index finger, "I'm just not to thrilled about having to share you." He booped my nose, making me giggle.
Two soft knocks interrupted us, "Mr. And Mrs. Hiddleston?" A brunette woman asked, "are you ready to see your baby for the first time?" She smiled.

"This is going to be a bit cold." She said after I lifted my shirt. Tom squeezed my hand slightly as she positioned the device on my lower stomach.

We both watched the screen and saw our baby form the first time,  and heard our baby's steady heart beat.

"It's too soon to know the sex of the baby, but everything looks good." She smiled.

>>Time passed steadily, at three months my belly began to show.

>At nine months, I was to go into labor any day.
It was late one night after dinner, I sat on the couch reading with Tom next when it happened.

I put my book down suddenly, Tom looked up at me.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

"Uh...... either I just peed myself, or its time." I said.
Panic washed over his face, he jumped up laughing nervously, unsure of what to do next.

"Tom, sweetie,  breathe." I reminded him, "help me get to the car."

"Yes, yes, yes." He said helping off the couch and through the front door.

"Suitcase,  we need the suitcase!" he said running inside and upstairs.
I saw the car keys on the table near the door, I picked them up and walked out. I heard Tom running behind me to catch up with me as I stood near the car. The pain started to intensify, I put my hands on my stomach, opened the car door and got inside, taking deep breaths.

"Are you ready to do this?" he asked as he finally reached me, kissing my lips quickly.

"I dont think so" I admitted as I felt another contraction.

He started to pat his pockets quickly.
"Car keys." he said before starting to race back to the house.

"Tom!" I yelled, as I dangled the keys, he quickly stopped and looked back at me as if I was dying, and let out a nervous chuckle as he saw the keys. He quickly ran back to me, even through the pain I couldn't help but laugh at how scared he was.

He climbed in the drivers seat, closed his door and dropped the keys before he could get them in the ignition.

"Maybe I should drive." I teased, feeling another contraction.

"I'm so sorry, love." He said as he started the car.

We got to the hospital, the nurses helped me into a wheelchair and we were taken straight to the delivery room.
The pain was like nothing I have ever experienced,  Tom held my hand the whole time, I pushed and pushed while the doctors encouraged me, finally, it was done.
I heard the faint cries of my baby, our baby.
After the last push everything felt numb, everything seemed blurry. I saw the nurse hand the baby to Tom next to me, I saw his blurry outline smiling at me, saying something I couldn't understand.
He handed the baby back to the nurse, said something to me, and was then taken out of the room by the nurses, he looked worried. I tried to reach for him and call his name but I was too weak, then everything went dark.

"

What is happening to my wife?" Tom demanded out in the hallway.

"Sir, just calm down, the doctor will be out shortly to explain." The nurse told him.
He looked back into the room where I laid unconscious as the doctors worked around me, the blinds were suddenly closed shut as Tom ran his hands through his hair. His deep blue eyes which were filled with joy, now watery; his whole world now falling apart.
