CLYDE PUSHED THE heavy wooden door to the workshop open, head hanging as he walked inside. As if on cue, a dark haired lad spoke up in a sing - song voice.
"Well! If it isn't Sleeping Beauty!" A coy grin tugged at the boy's lips as he wiped his hands on the apron that was tied around his waist. "Did you finally awaken from your long slumber?"
Clyde just huffed and closed the door behind himself, walking past the rather chipper apprentice. "Mornin, Emery."
"And a good morning to you
too, sir!""You're almost as loud as those ravens are," Clyde grumbled in dismay, head still hanging. It always embarrassed him to show up late.
"Uh - oh." Emery folded his arms over his chest, a genuine frown crossing his pouty lips. "Those stupid black birds annoying you again?"
Clyde nodded, a grimace replacing the more tired expression that he previously wore. "They woke me up making a lot of noise."
"I'll go give them a piece of my
mind!" Emery threw up his hands as if he were going to fight someone. But his arms were slender, and he didn't look like he weighed too much. In fact, he was even shorter than Clyde; much shorter, for someone who was only a year younger than Clyde was.Clyde chuckled under his breath at Emery's pathetic display of muscle and brawn — or lack thereof. "Oh yeah, you'll have them begging for mercy. They'll surely learn their lesson."
"Exactly!" Instead of being offended, Emery only proceeded to play along.
Clyde, on the other hand, began to laugh harder. "Or else, they'll just pick you up and probably carry you off with them—"
"Okay, that's just hurtful," Emery shot a playful scowl to his friend. "They couldn't handle all of this!" The shorter of the two flexed his arms and forced a fierce look into his rounded face that was shaped with wild locks of curly, dark hair.
But this only gave Clyde more of reason to cackle and gasp through his fit of laughter.
Just as Clyde's laughing began to die down, wiping a tear from his eye, his friend, Emery, looked as if he was going to give an exasperated complaint.
