Lucy and her ⅓ of the army arrived at the burned Telmar. She started to search around with the guards, trying to find food or things that might help find were the ones who did this was hiding. By an hour they had found 915 burned people, which 228 were men, another 238 were women and 218 were children. All of those dead people broke Lucy's heart. WHo could have done something so horrible to so many innocent people?
She was searching in the bakery, trying to find food when she heard a strange noise. It came from a couple of houses down. She ran out of the destroyed bakery and ran towards the noise. She couldn't figure out what it was, but it sounded and begging for help.
She arrived at a tall house. Its door was broken, and the windows were shattered. She ran inside the house. Most of its furniture was broken and burned. There was a rocking chair in the middle of the room with a large white blanket placed on it. Next to it was a small burned table with a large open book with burned papers. The floor was covered with what used to be a red carpet with green symbols, but know was a brown color. The curtains were still burning. There was a piano on the other side of the large room. The keys had some wood on them and were all broken. Somewhere on the floor. On top of the large piano was a small Teddy bear. It reminded her of her own. The one she had when she was younger. She picked it up and brushed off the ashes covering its face. It looked exactly the same as her old one.
The noise cried again, but this time she could hear it better. It was a loud noise, an innocent noise, a scared cry. She rushed up the squeaky stairs and found herself in a large hallway. She felt kind of dizzy. This house reminded her of the house she had back in London, except it was scarier. It was darker, broken. The doors were all black and closed except for one. She hurried to that door. She pushed it more open. There was a lady on the ground. She was wearing a long blue dress and her hair up in a bun. She seemed dead, but Lucy was sure she had heard the noise coming from this room. She looked down at the Lady, she still had a small breath.
"Help... my.... Malikah..." and with that, she was gone.
Who was Malikah? Where was she supposed to find her? Was she even still alive?
That's when she heard the cry again. Now she knew exactly from whom and where it came from. She looked around the room to the far corner. It came from a small crib. Shacking, Lucy walked closer to the white crib. Inside she found a small angel, crying. That's what those noises were.
She picked up the small infant and started hushing, relaxing it a bit.
"Why hello my beautiful Malikah..." she looked back at the dead mother and the baby in her arms. A feeling of guilt came rushing towards her. She felt like she wasn't supposed to be taking care of Malikah, but her real mother was. It felt wrong. But when she looked back a the small face laying near her heart, she fell in love with her. Her big cheeks and small fingers were so cute. Her short light brown hair. She loved everything about her.
She went down the stairs holding her tight in her arms. She went to the piano and picked up the Teddy bear. She took the large white blanket and placed it around Malikah. She stepped out of the house.
"Ah we've been-" a guard came, but stopped as he saw the small baby in her hands.
"Its mother is inside... she's dead, but her..." she looked down at Malikah, "she's breathing." she smiled and went to find the professor.
"Look at what I found... her name is Malikah," she showed the professor.
"She's the only one we found alive so far..." he said as he looked down at her. " the rest is or dead or have a faint heartbeat, which we cannot save."
Lucy nodded.
"Susan could take care of her. I shouldn't be trusted with babies," she smiled.
