Aelin's POV
"You and Zander, sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N---"
"I have a crossbow and a set of swords strapped in my back. Consider your next words very carefully."
Asterin goes still for a second then Laughs.
"You know... You and Theon would perfectly fit together." I tease her back.
She stabs my shoulder with her finger and I laugh, declaring my victory.
I hear my mother calling our names.
"Aelin!! Asterin!! Your father has been looking for you nontsop and you two are playing around like some little children, come here please".
"whoever gets there last brushes the horses tonight", Asterin screams while she rushes towards the castle.
I love how home looks. Trees surrounding the white castle, with the high fence "protecting" us from the outside world, our huge horses' stable at the back, my own basketball ground which I begged my father for, and the undiscovered thousand miles of tree forests surrounding us.
I like brushing Browny's hair, so my pace is much slower than my sister's hurrying feet. The four guards bow when they catch me passing by and open the huge golden door.
My dad is sitting in his chair, while my mom is resting her head on his shoulder. I can't help but notice the maids and the guards silently standing there as if it's the most important day of our lives.
My dad speaks, "My little princesses", I see mom's lips spread into a wide smile, "you're getting married soon".
--------------------------------------------------
"Married?" I exchange tense looks with Asterin, who screams the word at the same time as I do.
Ugh, twins.
"Your father and I have made our decision, and by that, you act."
I'm getting married. At the age of Eighteen.
Marrying young means it's the end of my freedom. My life is officially been set to a death sentence.
I can't get married. It can't just happen. It's not that simple.
"It's as simple as that. You do as we say, my dear angels. We've thought about it and it's best for both you and our country".
Shoot me. I prefer to die rather than do as they say.
Getting married means not being able to do sports, because princesses are only supposed to act royal and stay indoors, right?
I think my mom is a mind-reader.
"That's how you won't spend your forever jumping around with a ball. You'll be the queen that out country needs, with a king by her side".
Oh, now I'm sure my mom can read minds. Not just any mind.
Mine.
My father gets on his feet, the maids bow.
He locks eyes with mine, "Aelin, get prepared to meet Prince Theon. Asterin, you will have the privilege to get to know Zander, the Prince of the west kingdom".
What could possibly go wrong?
Welcome to my Royal life.
