Part I, Chapter II: A Flash of Pain

"All I know is that the waterhole is boring." Kiara meowed as they walked further from home.

"Actually, the waterhole is one of the most important places here in the savanna and holds a lot of diversity between the animals that-"

"Please, Kion, save the information for those who know less." Kovu cut him off.

Kion rolled his eyes. As if Kiara already knew most things, he thought.

"A-HOY"

The 3 cubs whipped around to the loud voice.

"Though we'd join up, no grubs found so far." Meerkat Timon came full running speed, followed by the warthog, Pumbaa.

"AWW, it was only going to be the three of us, Timon!" groaned Kiara.

Kovu just put on the best grin he could, but it came out as more of a nervous teeth show. Kion turned back around, uninterested. It was just the matter of convenience that the duo just so happened to be included in the family.

But the truth is, they did rescue Simba when he was a cub, and kept him alive all the way into his adulthood. It was still a question, however, of how the King survived entirely on the diet of grubs and bugs, let alone, somehow keep his teeth in good shape and sharpness.

"Why is the grass here so tall?" Kiara snapped Kion out of his thoughts. Both her and Kovu were up to their necks in the tall grass, for Kion, up to his chest.

"Some help here?" Timon remarked, who was surrounded in the grass, just his red hair tuft poking out.

"Timon? Timon? Did you just vanish..."

Pumbaa continued talking, but Kion didn't listen much more as he looked around and focused. And then, his whole body twitched. He saw blood scattered across the grass, day flashed to night.

"Come on out, little prince." A threatening and raspy voice whispered.
Kion closed his eyes, his heart began racing, breathing speeding up. And then he turned around and ran as fast as he could, ignoring the surprised calls behind him.
