Chapter 4
We finally arrived at Jennifer's house after about a 20 minute drive. When Daniel parked the car, we all went our separate ways. Daniel walked over to the group of friends that my brother and Zach hang out with all the time. Anna went with her fellow cheerleader friends, or as Jordan likes to call them her little "side bitches". I don't really know Anna all that well to be able to call her a slut, but from the things she has said to me, I can tell she's a nice person really.
Does Jordan think so? No.
Do I plan on sharing my thoughts on Anna with him? Definitely No.
*~*
What felt like hours, I was beginning to grow tired and weary. The aroma of purp coming from the living room filling my nostrils as I tried to refrain from inhaling the stench. I'd move away but the only thing keeping me guarded was Jordan standing in between my legs as they dangled from the counter I was sitting on top of.
Being the social king himself, him and Sofia talked relentlessly as I sat there, my arms thrown over his shoulders, only laughing when there was a joke in the conversation.
After two cups of soda, I whispered in Jordan's ear to move so I can excuse myself to the restroom. He only nodded, continuing to talk away with the group of people surrounding us.
I pushed and shoved a bit with the many bodies bumping and grinding to beat of insane music. I scurry up the stairs, jumping and hopping past couples toppled on each other intensely making out on the steps. My stomach churning at the sight of mouths sloppily moving against each other.
I slam the door of the bathroom behind me, locking the door and doing my business quickly when I hear the pounding of a fist colliding against the wooden door.
"One minute," I shouted, rinsing off the soap form my hands and swinging the door open, slipping past whoever went in the bathroom.
"Yeah yeah, whatever. Consider us done!" A voice boomed from one of the bedrooms I passed by, my curiosity taking its toll on me, taking a glance inside the bedroom finding a head of overgrown scruffy brown hair pacing back and forth.
I take a single step into the room, wincing at the sound of the phone slamming against the wooden floors Zach harshly launched straight down.
A soft gasp emitting from my lips causing Zach to look up. His hardened expression softening at my presence.
"Ashley," He sighs, "Hey, I forgot you were here."
I only nodded in response before speaking, "That conversation didn't sound so good," I say, not sure whether it was a good idea to bring it up or not.
"Yeah, it was just Kay. I decided to call it quits with her," He sighs again.
"I thought you guys weren't a thing?" I say in a questioning tone.
"We weren't, but I thought we were getting there. But she was downstairs, sucking some junior's face off," He cringed as he spoke.
"So you really like her?" I ask.
Hi gaze goes from the ground to my face, his lips parting then closing, only nodding. But by reading his face you could tell how unsure he was about his answer.
"But she wasn't the one I really liked," He murmured.
A loud crash was hear behind me and I winced again at the sound of glass crashing downstairs. I take another step into the room, closing the door behind me and leaning on it.
Zach sits at the end of the half-made bed, legs spread apart, elbows on his knees with his head in his hands.
"So why are you worrying? If she wasn't the one, it shouldn't be a big deal," I shrug, "I mean, I guess you could make an effort to talk to the girl you really like. Show her what you're really like."
Zach is facing the ground, but I can see a small grin appear on his lips.
When he looks up at me, he pats the spot next to him and I oblige to his silent request and take a seat next to him.
"I guess you're right," He shrugs, "I mean I've known her for a while, so I guess I could try and make an effort to change her view on me."
I nod, looking down at my twiddling thumbs on my lap.
For some odd reason, I being to feel a little nauseated talking about Zach making an effort to talk to the girl he really likes. I know I barely got along with Zach, but I did have feelings for him since 7th grade until my the end of my freshman year. I just hope those feelings weren't planning to make a comeback. Especially now.
"I hope she likes you back," I say above a whisper, even though we were the only ones in the room.
When I look over at Zach, he's looking at me and I watch as his chest rises from the breath he took.
"Yeah," He whispers, "I hope so too."
I furrow my eyebrows when I notice the proximity between me and Zach, his face slowly leaning into mine. I feel like my insides have drained and my breathing quickening when his eyes flutter closed, his lips inches from mine. The breath that leaves his mouth fills my nostrils; the smell of peppermint and alcohol fanning my skin, goosebumps racing through my arms.
I feel both scared and excited about what's about to happen.
But when his lips are just about to brush against my own, the sound of the bedroom door swinging open causes him to pull away.
