"I'm just gonna hit the toilet," Andrew said standing. "I'll be back shortly."
He walked up the stairs to his bathroom, leaving Alex in the lounge, surrounded by sheets of paper, guitars, and half-drunk mugs of tea. His best friend looked up at him in annoyance.
"If you stopped using tea as a distraction, you'd have to make a lot fewer trips!" he called.
Andrew shook his head and shut the door. When he was finished, he washed his hands. There was a knock at the front door just as he opened the bathroom door.
"You're not the cable repairman," Alex's voice drifted up from the entryway.
"And you're not Andrew," Molly's voice replied.
Then it hit him: it was Friday. He was meant to be going camping with Molly and everyone else for the weekend.
"Molly!" he called, rushing down the stairs.
She pushed past a stunned Alex into the front room. "You forgot, didn't you?" She asked.
"No, I didn't," Andrew replied. He began gathering sheets of paper into a pile. "This is ehm, Alex," he added, pointing to the other man. "He's my friend. And my touring bassist."
"You're the one from Trinity," Molly said.
"Yes," Alex answered, holding his hand out. "Pleased to meet you."
Molly looked around the lounge in curiosity. "What happened in here?"
"Ehm - sometimes Alex comes by to help me figure out a melody," Andrew explained, picking up a mug in each hand.
"Is that what you've been doing since Monday?" she asked.
"For the most part, yeah," he replied from the kitchen.
When he returned, he found Alex still frozen in place, staring at her in awe. Molly caught him staring and took a step back, self-consciously.
"Jesus, Alex," Andrew muttered, shoving his friend back to consciousness. "Help me clear up."
The other man was shaken from his stare and jumped into action. Within minutes, they had cleared away the mess and were beginning to put away the instruments that had been sitting out.
"So you're going camping?" Alex asked. "Taking an extra long tent?" he quipped with a smirk.
"We're taking whatever Jon brings," Andrew answered, zipping the case for his Takamine closed.
"Can I come with?" Alex asked eagerly.
"You might have to sleep outside, but sure," he replied. "More the merrier."
So much for a romantic night under the stars he groused to himself.
"I've slept in worst places," the bassist grinned. "Like the floor of that house we played in Drougheda."
Andrew had to chuckle at the memory of himself and his best friend crowded on the sticky floor of someone's garage. Fun times. "This time, I'm positive there will be considerably less chewing gum on the ground," he smirked.
"Nah, its alright," Alex relented. "I was actually hoping to catch up with a few people in Dublin over the weekend. Maybe catch up with Rachel," he said, wagging his eyebrows.
"Rachel's your girlfriend," Andrew said. "How can you 'catch up' with her when you have her phone number and practically live with her, you great gobdaw."
Molly snickered from her place on the end of the sofa. "Its cute, really. You two argue like an old married couple," she said.
"Well he is my tour husband," Alex joked, much to Andrew's chagrin.
