A Christmas Surprise

Author's Note

This chapter picks up during the Christmas special just after Mia told Zoe that Gabby is homeless, and Gabby is storming away. I hope you enjoy! And don't forget to vote and comment!

Zoe's POV

I stand there, watching Gabby storm away, and glare at Mia.
"Nice Christmas spirit, Mia." I tell her angrily.
" You're a fine one to talk. You've been so wrapped up in your own Merry Christmas you didn't even realize your new best friend is homeless. " She snaps back. Susie scoffs at Mia and walks off, Mia follows. I know that Mia is right. This Christmas Eve has been so crazy, I was so happy that Grandpa and Uncle Owen were reunited after 30 years, but I was so busy trying to make the perfect Christmas for me and my grandpa, that I was totally oblivious to everyone else around me. I was so mad at myself, I knew that something was going on with Gabby, but was I really so ignorant that I couldn't even see that Gabby had been sleeping at the stables? Pin still wasn't back from traveling the world, and not having him here with me on Christmas is really hard, so I've been trying to distract myself. I miss Pin so much, and not having him here has made it hard to enjoy the holiday. As I am about to walk away, I hear a voice behind me say,
"Zoe?" I turn around and see,
" Pin! " I can't believe it, after almost 6 months Pin has finally come home. And On Christmas too!
"Pin's back!" Jade says from behind me, Becky says something too, but I don't hear it because I am so excited to be with Pin again. I walk up to him and say,
" You're here, you're really here! "
"I'm sorry I'm late, I missed the whole party." Pin says, he grabs my hand and I say,
" Wait right here. There's something I need to do. " At that moment he looks up and I follow his gaze. I see that we are standing under the mistletoe. I want to kiss him so bad, but I know that I need to go after Gabby. She's been through so much, and I need to help her out, especially since it's Christmas. I let go of Pin's hand and start to leave. I call out to him,
"I'll be back." I leave Mia's house and see Gabby galloping away on Firefly.
" Gabby! Gabby, wait! " I call out to her, but she keeps on going. I find Firelfly's horseshoe on the road, pick it up, and head to the newly renovated Bright Fields. I find Gabby inside, packing, and I tell her,
"You're taking this Cinder Gabby thing literally, huh?" I say, half joking. Gabby keeps her back to me, and sniffling, she says,
" Look, I know. Why didn't I tell you? You could've helped. I know, okay? I know. " I sit down besides her.
"Gabby... you tell me things when you're ready to tell me. That's the deal." I tell her. "And all I'm asking now is, where are you going?" I ask, she turns around and I see that her eyes are red from crying.
" I have no idea. " She says sadly.
"Well, I do. You're coming home with me and Grandpa." When smiles, and we hug. I can tell that she is happy to have somewhere to live, and even happier that she has a friend.
" I have to go, " I tell her, "Pin's waiting for me." She smiles and I run out the door and back to Mia's house, praying that Pin is still there.

Pin's POV

Me and Marcus arrive at Mia's house just before midnight.
"Two minutes to midnight. We made it." I tell Marcus as we walk downstairs to the ballroom.
"All thanks to you." Marcus says " Here's to going for what you want. "
"Yeah. Right back at you." Today had been crazy, I was in Hawaii when I got a message from Mia saying that I was invited to her family's Mistletoe Ball. I was surprised how, Mia didn't normally invite me to things, unless you doing the time she asked me to Pony Prom just to get back at Zoe. But I decided to go, it would be the perfect time to return home. After almost six months of traveling I was finally ready to go home to my friends, family, and most importantly, Zoe. I was still scared about going back, I was still worried about Zoe changing her mind, but I knew that I couldn't stay away forever. I couldn't turn into my mom, I had to go back to Zoe. I got a text from Marcus soon after getting Mia's invitation asking me to pick him up from the train station. so I quickly hopped on a plane, picked up Marcus, and we made our way back to the Island. The trip didn't go exactly as planned however. On the way I picked up some people who were stranded on the mainland and needed to get back to the Island for Christmas. Marcus kept telling me to ignore them, knowing that we would miss the ferry, but I didn't listen. Zoe had taught me that I should always look out for others, human or animal. I couldn't just leave them stranded, and especially not on Christmas Eve. So I picked them up and took them to the ferry. But doing this came at a terrible price, we had missed the ferry. I knew that I should have been sad that I wouldn't be able to spend Christmas with Zoe, but in a way I was actually relieved. I was scared that Zoe didn't want to be with me anymore, and that by going back our relationship would fall apart. I thought that Zoe would be mad that I hadn't texted her for weeks at a time. But after talking to Marcus I realized that I had nothing to be afraid of by going home, and that Zoe would be happy to see me. So I used my title of duke to get us on a ferry to the Island. As me and Marcus make our way outside where Becky has just finished performing The Twelve Neighs of Christmas, I see Zoe standing across from Mia and Suzie while Gabby is running back inside looking sad and angry. Mia and Zoe seemed to be arguing. Of course, I think to myself and sigh. I definitely could have chosen a better time to arrive. it takes me a minute for me to find my voice, Zoe looks so beautiful standing there in her white dress that I can't find the words. Eventually I am able to call out to her.
"Zoe?" I say, just before she leaves.
" Pin! "" I can tell she is happy to see me, and I am instantly relieved.
" Pin's back! " I head Jade say as Zoe approaches me.
"Mistletoe alert!" Becky says, but I am not focusing on anyone else but Zoe.
" You're here, you're really here! " She says with a look of pure happiness on her face. I am so glad she is happy to see me again, I was worried she would be angry.
"I'm so sorry I'm late, I missed the whole party." I grab Zoe's hand and she says,
"Wait right here. There's something I need to do." I look up at the mistletoe hanging above us, and I want to kiss her so badly. I can tell Zoe does too, but she pulls away and begins to leave.
"I'll be back." She says. Marcus comes up from behind me and says,
" Told you being a duke wouldn't change a thing. " He goes back inside to enjoy the rest of the party, but I stay outside under the mistletoe. I look up at the mistletoe one more time and sigh. I will wait for Zoe as long as it takes.
