The odd, mismatched group of friends plus Antheia had been walking for a while. Moomin and his pals had rarely ceased talking, yet Antheia spoke next to none. She was rather comfortable with this at first (the less you talk, the less chance you have to mess it up), but her plan to keep quiet was quickly foiled.
"Hey Antie!! How'd you even learn so much about plants?" Little My shouted.
"Hm?" Antheia hadn't been paying attention and had no idea where the nickname 'Antie' came from, nor why she was brought into the conversation. She did her best to answer, and said, "Well, I tended a garden one summer years ago. I found out I loved knowing how to make each plant flourish and discovering what it was good for, so I made a life out of that." She smiled, hoping her answer was content.
"Yeah, so what's this plant do!" Little My yelled, looking around quickly before pulling up a handful of greenery.
"Why, I believe that's just some fern moss. You managed to pull up a clover, too, lookie there!" Antheia smiled, happy to be useful.
"Aw, nothing interesting! Is there anything around here that's cool?!" Little My complained, dropping the moss and wiping her gloves off on her red coat. Antheia's grin faltered, but she looked around, eager to please her new acquaintances.
"Oh! Over there!" She said, jogging to a large tree with a large flowerless plant growing around it. The leaves were small, pale green and ribbed. "Eat that!" Antheia said proudly, taking a leaf and chomping on it for herself.
"Well, by golly I could eat anything right now!" Sniff said, rubbing his stomach and squinting his small eyes. Antheia plucked the biggest, healthiest leaf off the plant and gave it to him. He popped it in his mouth, chewing on it for a moment just to taste it.
"Woah!!" He said, quickly moving to shovel more of the leaves into his mouth.
"Sniff! Oh, save some for the rest of us!" Snorkmaiden whined, running with Little My and Moomin in order to snag a taste of the plant.
"Why, I've seen these leaves all over, who knew they tasted like honey!" Moomin sighed, giving everyone a glimpse of the leaf stuck between his teeth. Antheia giggled softly, and looked around at the group she was with. It was only moments ago that she was so nervous just to speak, but this demographic was so open and carefree that they had made her feel welcome and included almost immediately.
"My goodness, I think you know more about plants than Mr. Hemulin himself!" Snorkmaiden teased, but the joke was lost on Antheia.
"Who?" She said, cocking her haid to the side subtly.
"Maybe you'll meet him later." Little My said thoughtfully, "Hey, why are you going to Moomin Valley anyway!" She looked inquisitively toward Antheia.
"Well, theres a house over there. I'm going to look at it and decide if I'd like to move there." Antheia said, glancing up at the sky. Beyond the many leaves, big and small, the sky was a beautiful view. Antheia wondered if the atmosphere had ever seemed so bright. Perhaps she'd never looked at it so closely. Or maybe it was just the encironment here. Everything seemed somehow a little brighter, a little nicer. It was lovely, she thought, and it really would be an amazing place to live.
"So I can come ask you what any plants I find are!" Little My smiled.
"I suppose so, if I do decide to move here," Antheia hummed. She smiled at Little My, intrigued by the child's unique attitude. "Would you like to look at it with me? You can help me decide if it'd be the right house." She offered to the little girl.
"Sure! Maybe it'll be haunted! Oooh, maybe it'll be an old crime scene!!" She said excitedly, amusing Antheia, who thought it was an odd thing for someone so young to be excited about. She also thought it wasn't her place to judge though, and kept going with the geoup once they had eaten so many leaves that Antheia had to beg them to stop so the plant could grow back.
Walking and chatting seemed to go by much quicker than walking alone, Antheia thought. It took what felt like 15 minutes to get to Moomin Valley. Sniff, Snorkmaiden, and Moomin left Little My and Antheia to go explore the house together, since it was dinner time at Moomin House. They directed Antheia to the house and told her to stop by if she ever wanted to, which made Antheia's heart swell a little. She was excited to meet the other Moomins, but had to explore the house first. Her and Little My walked about a mile before reaching the home.
It was a cute house, not far from the beach but still sitting on grass. Antheia took note that the soil looked very wet and naturally packed with minerals for a garden. The front of the house had a patio with a roof over it and a gorgeous swirly trim. It appeared to need a paint job, but the wood was unquestionably perfect. The windows were large, with a frame that matched the trim of the patio. Antheia hadn't even stepped foot inside and she was already in love.
The inside was rather plain, with not too many noticeable features. Antheia did note that every room had candleholders with extravagant designs nailed to the walls. The first room after entering the house was, unsurprisingly, the living room. It was sort of large, and had white, textureless walls and a light wooden floor. There was a door that led to the bathroom and a beautiful arch that led to the kitchen. The kitchen had marble counters that seemed expensive and an old oven that would certainly need replaced. After the kitchen came another empty room, which Antheia thought she might make into some sort of study. From there the girls entered a hallway that led to two bedrooms. Little My rambled on about turning the second bedroom into her own, but Antheia thought that she'd rather have a guest bedroom for anyone to use. She pictured two twin beds and a large dresser that would only hold a few items and thought that would be best.
After wandering through the rooms for a while, Antheia was outside looking around the house. The north side of the house faced the ocean, along with a rocky slope that would do no good as a garden. The patio was on the east side, so Antheia decided she'd only plant some potted flowers or a rose bush on that end of the house. She decided she would put up a short white picket fence on the west side of the house, big enough to hold a vegetable garden and an herb garden.
"Antie!! Come look at what I found!!" Little My yelled from inside. Antheia had left her to explore on jer own. She skipped inside curiously.
"What've you got?" Antheia smiled.
"Right here! The floorboards are messed up, they look like they've been pulled up before!" Little My grinned, "there's probably bodies hidden under there, don't you think?"
"I sure hope not. That'd probably stink up my new house," Antheia joked in the most casual tone she could muster. She set down her bag and shrugged off her jacket in order to free her arms, then wedged her fingers under the board that seemes most loose.
"You might have to help me," she said, waiting for Little My to join her by the board. Together, they pulled up the wood in order to reveal a gaping hole. In the little light that was there, they could make out what looked like some kind of cellar.
"Let me grab a candle! One moment," Antheia hurried off, slightly excited and slightly scared. Who knew what could be hiding under this old, adorable home?
