Antheia was honored to be called a surprise, and felt incredibly welcomed. "I'm Antheia, I'll be moving into the house by the beach."
"You mean the one that's not far from the cliff?" Said the white moomin with the spiffy hat.
"Yes, sir."
"Why, it's so old and looks worn down! You'll need help making it livable again! I'm Moominpappa, by the way, and this is my wife, Moominmamma. It's lovely to meet you." He held out his hand, and Antheia shook it as firmly as she could. The two smiled at eachother.
"I really would appreciate the help, if you wouldn't mind," Antheia said, rubbing her arm. She lowered her head to gaze at the ground.
"Of course not, I'm sure all of us can help," Moominpappa gave her a thumbs-up. She relaxed a little.
"Ooh, I could make you all some sweet tea with sandwiches and cookies while you do your work!" Moominmamma smiled, flattening out the few wrinkles in her apron. Antheia smiled, growing more comfortable.
"Did you mention cooking? How can I help?" Sniff's voice was heard from inside. He peeked his head out the door to look at Moominmamma. Everyone chuckled, but Antheia, not knowing the group as personally as any of the others, slowly backed away. She didn't leave or turn away, but she knew these people were close and didn't want to be an intrusive new neighbor.
"Hello," a voice from behind scared her, making her jump lightly. She turned around quickly to see Snufkin. She admired his soft, light chesnut brown hair and his maple brown eyes up close. Antheia shook her head to stop her staring, and waved at him wordlessly.
"I'm Snufkin, but from what Little My yelled earlier I believe you know that."
"Uh, yes. That's you!" Antheia said nervously. She wasn't particularly sure how to respond to the statement. Smufkin didn't seem to care much, though. He stayed silent, but didn't take his eyes off of Antheia for a few moments. Then he turned toward the group.
"Moomin, would you like to come with Antheia and me down to the stream?" He asked, inviting Antheia on his own accord. She gave him a funny look, but wasn't opposed to getting away from the family for some individual bonding and to see a stream.
"Of course Snufkin!" Moomin smiled, running to be next to his best friend.
Little My joined the group as they left. "I'm coming too!" She said, leaving no room for argument. The walk was peacefully quiet. At least, for a while. It was hard to keep Moomin or Little My quiet in any situation. Little My quickly began to ask about every plant she saw. Antheia would laugh and answer. She thought it was adorable, the way Little My was so interested in learning new things.
"Here we are," Snufkin said at last. He walked inside his tent and came back holding a fishing pole. He sat down next to the stream and cast his line. Moomin plopped down next to him and Little My began to play downstream. It seemed to Antheia as though this was a common pasttime for the group.
She wasn't sure what she could do, but appreciated that no one seemed in the mood for talking. Antheia loved this quiet time and definitely hoped she would get invited again. She busied herself by twisting a crown out of some grass and yellow wildflowers she could find. By the time Snufkin had caught a fish, she had completed her crown.
"Hey!! I want one!" Little My yelled, finally noticing the ring of plants sitting on Antheia's head. The boys turned to look, too.
"It's so cute, Antheia!" Moomin smiled. Snufkin nodded. Antheia was in shock at how amazed they were by one measly flower crown- it wasn't even her best.
"I could teach you how to make one, if yo-"
"No, no, I'm way too busy to do it myself!! But I want one and you're the one who's good with flowers!" Little My said.
"It's really not that hard. Besides, you don't have to know a thing about flowers..." Antheia sighed, Little My was already turned away and had become a lost cause. She picked some large white flowers and some baby's breath to make a sweet white flower crown. Moomin then asked for one, as well, so Antheia picked a bunch of yellow and pink flowers for him. Even though he didn't ask for one, Antheia decided to use some pink flowers and large, light green leaves for Snufkin, too.
Moomin had now turned to watch Antheia spin flower crowns instead of watching Snufkin's lack of fishing. Antheia thought the bank of the water looked a little low and guessed that the fishing must not have been good because of less running water than usual. After watching Antheia make Little My's crown, Moomin picked up his piles of flowers and got to work on his own flower crown. Antheia put Little My's crown on her head, and Little My loved it instantly. She felt of it, spun around, and began playing some pretend game, talking too fast for Antheia to keep up.
Antheia sat back down to make Snufkin's. Moomin kept glancing at the extra flower crown, so Antheia pointed at Snufkin's back, winked, and put a finger to her lips. Moomin smiled very wide and got back to work on his own flower crown.
Once both the crowns were finished, Moomin adjusted his on his head, then got up. He and Antheia slowly crept up behind Snufkin. Once they were both close enough, making sure not to rustle the grass, they teamed up. Moomin swiped Snufkin's hat and, immediately after, Antheia set the crown on his head. They high-fived as if they'd just successfully pulled off a heist.
Snufkin's hand went to his head, and he was still a little shocked, but smiled at the two when he took the crown off to examine it. Antheia couldn't help but notice that even though flower crowns make anything 100 times cuter, Snufkin looked extra dashing in his crown. He looked less like a wandering witch and more like a forest spirit. Antheia found it absolutely adorable.
"We all look amazing! Thanks lots for making them, Antheia!" Moomin smiled, catching Little My's attention. Little My ran over to the group.
Antheia smiled back, "You made yours! You shouldn't be the one thanking me!" She teased.
"Thank you," Snufkin said peacefully, taking his flower crown off his head. Antheia and Moomin both whined, so he slid the crown over his hat so he could wear both. Antheia loved how appreciated something as small as a flower crown was, and realized just how much fun she had making things for her new friends.
