Antheia had left her home at the age of 13. She packed bags full of essentials such as a few outfits, a toothbrush, and all the books about plant life she could carry. Now, at the age of 17, it is far from uncommon to see her lugging around the very same things.
This morning, however, she's decided to change up her typical lifestyle. For most of her childhood she researched plants, and for the past 4 years she's traveled far and wide to do even more research. She's got a sack full of seeds and has decided it's high time she settled down and put together a lovely garden next to a lovely home. In fact, today she's going to be house hunting.
Inside her tent, just after the sun rose, she woke up. She pulled sone high waisted, pale yellow shorts out of her bag and pulled them on. Spending no time deciding, she also changed into a loose white button up shirt, rolling the sleeves up to the elbows and tugging a too-big, light gray jacket over it. The morning air was crisp and chilly as she stepped outside to brush her teeth with the clearest stream water she could find. She decided she'd try out the water of her new home by taking a shower later in the day, so she simply wet down and rubbed some petals on her hair and clothes in order to add just a hint of aroma. She twisted her hair into a braid to keep it out of her face and began to pack up all her things.
It took her several hours to make the trek to her house. She hadn't officially bought it, but Antheia had a good feeling about the home she saw only pictures of. It seemed rather run-down, but the man selling the house said anyone willing to try would find little to no trouble fixing it up. The prospect of working on her own home excited Antheia near as much as planting her garden there.
Antheia was only about a mile away from her destination when she heard a noise. She determined that a group of people was screaming a decent ways away from her, and she couldn't decide if it was from fear or joy. She decided that she was in no rush and would veer off of her course for a few moments in order to see what all the commotion was about.
Arriving just in time, Antheia witnessed an awful sight. The screaming was of excitement, thankfully, coming from a group of children playing around with ropes in trees. However, Antheia showed up right as one of the children's ropes snapped under their weight, causing the poor boy to fall rapidly down from the high branches. Antheia observed that he was a rather large kid, covered in white fur with a lovely tail and tall ears. She rushes to the scene just as the boy's friends scurried down their trees in order to check on him.
"Hey! Who are you!" Snapped one of the friends from the group, a very small girl with bright ginger hair and an angry face.
"I'm a stranger, but I can help him," Antheia said cautiously. She didnt know these people, but she clearly saw that the fallen boy was cut up and rubbing at spots that seemed to be bruising quickly. The small girl looked quickly back and forth between Antheia and her friend, and she grunted, apparently deciding to trust Antheia. None of the others in the group said a word or moved to stop Antheia, so she opened her bag and walked over to the boy.
She pulled out an oval shaped leaf with purple speckles that had been stuck inside one of the many pockets of her bag. Not having a mortar and pestle with her, she did her best at mashing the plant between her hands. Once it became slimey, she began to rub the homemade ointment onto the boy's cuts. His expression immediately eased, and his friends were all at least a little shocked.
"How'd you do that?" A girl who looked very similar to the boy asked. The only differences she showed were her locks of blonde hair, her brown eyes, and her golden anklet. Antheia smiled nervously and yet knowingly.
"It was just an Eindrite plant I'd found earlier today. You're lucky I picked it up when I saw it! Here," she said, extracting a thick and worn journal from the bag resting on her side. She quickly flipped to a page with Eindrite written on top. It included a rough but well-done sketch of the plant and lots of notes, including 'relaxes external pain, possibly speeds up blood clotting.' The girl was interested, and took the book from Antheia's hands.
"Thanks so much! Do you mind if I ask your name?" Said the boy who now seemed to be in much better condition.
"Of course! Im Antheia, and happy to help. It's not often I come across a situation I can use my plants for some real good," she smiled, offering a hand to help the boy up.
"I'm glad you were passing by when you were! I'm Moomin, and these are my friends, Snorkmaiden and Little My," the boy, Moomin explained, pointing to each girl as he named them. Antheia smiled and waved, not sure what to say to them.
"Well Moomin, I've sort of lost my way after coming to help you. Do you think you could point me in the direction of Moomin Valley before we part?" She asked, doing her best to be as polite as possible. Antheia thought it was likely she'd be seeing these folk again and wanted to leave a good first impression. She did hope that helping their friend might do it for her, but she could never tell.
"Of course! I live there, we can walk with you the whole way!" Moomin said excitedly. Antheia cheered, but she wasn't sure she could pull it off. Researching around the world wasn't a good hobby to have if you wanted to level up your social skill, per se. Antheia was nervous, yet decided that it would be impolite to decline the offer and would do her best to learn about her fellow Moomin Valley residents, assuming she chose to live here. The group set off on their way.
