Little My shovelled a bite of cobbler in her mouth. "What is it?" She said with her mouth full.
"Well, you know the time you, me, Moomin, and Snufkin all sat by the stream and hung out?" Antheia asked, trying to ease her eay into the conversation. She was pretty sure thats how you were supposed to do this sort of thing.
"Of course! It was on the day we met." Little My smiled, already getting up to grab more cobbler.
"Well... did I do something wrong to Snufkin?" Antheia asked, looking down at her own plate.
"Um... no? What exactly are you asking here?" Little My chuckled. It seemed to Antheia to be more of a pity laugh, though.
"Its just that I haven't even seen him since then. Apparently, he's been all over Moomin Valley, visiting several places that I have, too. I've accidentally bumped into just about everyone, but I never even see him leaving," Antheia vented.
"Well, if you're so curious, why don't you ask him?"
"Oh, heavens, no! What am I supposed to say, 'excuse me, do you hate me?' I think not!" Antheia laughed, though she meant what she said.
"It isn't that hard to talk to people. I think its just Snufkin being Snufkin. He's not exactly the type to seek out a conversation most of the time." Little My finished her third piece of cobbler as she finished making her point. Antheia rested her head on her hand and sighed. Little My facepalmed, saying "Really, you just need some reason to seek him out. Tell him you needed him for something, then strike up a conversation."
"Hmm..." Antheia pondered this option for a while, taking a couple bites of her own cobbler, "Oh! I could say I wanted to thank him for taking me to the stream that day!" She smiled. Little My nodded with a triumphant look on her face. "Why, I'll do it right now!" Antheia said, stretching her little bit of confidence as far as she could manage it.
"Well alright then. Off you go!" Little My said. Antheia stood up, and walked oht the door right then and there. But... then she faltered. What would she do after she said thank you?? She wasn't exactly great at striking up a conversation. Too late now, she told herself over and over again.
She figured she would check the stream where Snufkin lived first. Would it be creepy to just show up at his house? She shook the thought out of her mind, trying not to let little things get to her head. Besides, Moomin Valley was such a friendly place, that sort of thing was kind of normal here. People showed up at her door all the time, what would it hurt to do the same?
At last making it to Snufkin's practical little tent, Antheia lightly called out Snufkin's name to see if he was anywhere nearby. Thankfully, he stepped out of his tent after her first call. Antheia couldn't help but smile when she saw him. His hat was off, which Antheia had mever seen before, and he had a serious case of hat hair. Where his hair was usually hidden under his hat, it was flattened down, and everywhere else, it was poofy and almost wavy. His eyes were sort of glossy, like he was still half asleep, but nonetheless he had an expression of confusion from Antheia's arrival at his metalhoric doorstep.
"Oh, no, I'm so sorry, did I wake you?" Antheia asked, feeling sort of dumb now and internally scolding herself.
"Yes, but it's alright. Do you need something?" Snufkin said politely, but Antheia still picked up on his slight annoyance. She thought about it a little too long, leaving an uncomfortable pause after Snufkin's words.
"Well, Im so so sorry to have woken you for this, but I just wanted to thank you for inviting me to the stream the day I first arrived," Antheia waited for a reaction. When Snufkin only nodded, she felt compelled to elaborate even though she also felt like she should just shut up. "WELL you see it meant a lot because it was my first day in this area and my first time around all these people, and I'm very bad at talking to new people so it really meant a lot to me that you were willing to just accept me so quickly and... um," she wasn't sure how to finish her sentence, so she decided to say "thanks."
"Honestly, it was easy to accept you after all the good things Moomin said about you. I trust him," Snufkin said simply, rubbing his eyes and taking a seat near the edge of the stream. Antheia revered his matter-of-fact manner and wished she could care that little about things. She dared ro sit next to him, even though she still felt a thick layer of ice that needed broken between them before a friendship could bloom.
She decided to talk about something they had in common: their friends. "Moomin's really special. He's so kind to everyone," she smiled. This was true, he was always sweet and Antheia found it honorable just how much he was willing to sacrifice to make others happy all the time. All Snufkin did, though, was nod. Antheia couldn't come up with somrthing to say, amd then the moment passed. She could tell things were awkward, and the wished she was just a little better at conversation. In her defense, though, Snufkin wasn't really helping.
Snufkin stood up, then held out his hand to help Antheia up as well. She took it and, once she was stood, Snufkin said "Let's go somewhere," which was totally normal and not creepily vague. So they went.
