POV: Juan
"Carl I need a huge favor" After I had arrived at the barn again I instantly went to find Carl, not wasting a second, so I could go back to the two poor horses as fast as humanly possible.
"Were you not supposed to visit Calla at the hospital today?" Carl gave me the raised eyebrow while continuing cleaning up with the rake he was using to even the bedding out in the stall.
"I was, but on my way there I saw two really thin horses, they lacked food and water in their pen and there was no roof where they could seek shelter from the sun, wind or the rain." I started to explain, knowing that if I didn't have a good enough excuse for not being at the hospital like I was supposed to, he would skin me alive. He had been the person to convince me to visit Calla.
"I couldn't leave them. They looked like they were on the edge of death. Who would be able to leave animals in that kind of situation?" I had started to talk a little faster because I wanted to make him understand and help me help the horses."Okay. What do you need?" Carl sighed. I knew with almost certainty that Carl would help me. He is a kind man and likes to help others. And it only helps that we are very close because of all the time we both spend in the stable.
"Money," I gave him an innocent smile. "The man wanted 2000 thousand for both of the horses, but I am only good for 1000 dollars."
"What do you plan to do with them after you have bought them?" Carl turned around so he was looking straight at me "Not that I don't want to lend you the money for them, but you need to have some kind of plan."
"I was thinking that I would train them and then sell them again after a while. I would like to keep them, but I know that I cannot afford three horses in the long run and don't even talk about the time to ride all of them"
"It sounds like an okay plan, not as sure as I would have liked, but I believe that you can manage. Also, you can have them here for free if you give me some of the money you would earn on them." Carl started walking out of the stable towards the trailer. "Well, then let us get this show on the road as you young people say"
I followed Carl to the trailer and got in and then drove to the poor horses.

Knock Knock Knock...
"WHAT!" The man opened the door, he was just as angry as when I left him an hour ago.
"I am here to pick up the horses as promised." I gave him a friendly smile, even though I could not stand him. Not only did he smell he also looked terrible.
"Do you have my money?"
"Yes, I do." I handed him the money and kept staring at him. Carl had waited at the trailer since we both had agreed that it would be a little invasive if we both were there. And I did not need him in a worse mood than he already was. I wouldn't risk him taking back the deal.
"Get out of my sight and take those useless pests with you." He slammed the door shut right in my face. I didn't mind since I got what I came for.

"Let's get the horses in the trailer and then get out of here"
"What got you in a hurry? It sounded like a pleasant conversation from here." Carl and I started to walk towards the paddock. Carl had already opened the trailer that was ready for them.
"That is the understatement of the year. I say that we just get the horses in the trailer and get out of here as fast a possible."
"ah ah ah" Carl gave a small laugh. So armed with a rope and a carrot each we went into the paddock were the two horses were eyeing us suspiciously from the corner furthest from us. They had run over there when we had driven in with the trailer and stayed there the entire time.
"Do you think they are scared and will run away from us?" I asked Carl in a low voice just to be sure that I wouldn't scare them.
"No, I don't think so. They seem more suspicious of us than scared. I don't think that they have been abused just neglected." I nodded and trusted Carls judgment since he had been around horses for more years than I have been alive.
I started to walk towards the one closest to me. She was a beautiful horse even though she had dried mud everywhere in her fur and was to thin. Even with all the mud, I could see that she was black, I couldn't see any other colors, not even a white blaze in her beautiful sculpted head.
"Come here girl, I have a treat for you," I kept my voice low and non-threatening because even though Carl said they weren't scared of us, I didn't want to take any chances. The horses took a small step towards me, with her ears pointed towards me. She was so cute, she looked so curious.
Yeah, I ain't gonna hurt you." I gave her a small smile. She shook her head and gave a shrill neigh before walking over to me and began to eat the carrot I still had in my extended hand. I clicked the rope unto her halter, while she continued to eat the carrot. I looked over to Carl to see that he had also clicked his rope unto the rope of the light brown mare.
"Well, that went better than I had imagined." Carl smiled, before leading his horse over to the trailer with me following behind.
"I can only agree with that."
After we loaded them in the trailer, which also went peaceful, we started to head back to the barn to get them settled in.
