3rd Person's POV
A small house stood on a hill in a quiet forest near the beach. The house had been one of ten on the small remote island. It was long and narrow, but it stretched some thirty feet back like a giant shoe box. It was two stories high and had a one story extension at the rear for the kitchen. The wooden framed sash windows were propped open with sticks and the brick work. They were once a jaunty yellow, but now a dirty brown. A small beautiful rose garden had been planted in front, and although it had obviously once been carefully planted and loved, it was now riddled with weeds and dead roses.
The house was welcoming from the open door to the wide hallway. Upon the walls were the photographs of children. The floor was old-fashioned and the walls were a blend of green with a bold white baseboard. The raggedy stairs led to three small rooms. One guest room that had been sloppily put together but held a tired old man. Another room empty but decorated well. The third room was a bright blue color with clouds painted on the ceiling. The room had been delicately put together and was as orderly as can be.
Two small eight year old children run into the room with cardboard swords swinging back and forth at one another. The sword fight went on for another minute until one of the children's legs caught on the bed, making them fall to the ground.
"Ow!"
The small girl starts to cry with big crocodile tears running down her face as she watches her knee suddenly split open and bleed. The small boy throws down his play sword and sits beside her. He puts his arm around her shoulder while rubbing her arm lightly.
"Hey it's okay. Look what I have here Catalina."
Catalina glances up and looks through her tears as the small boy holds up a bandage. She watches as he rips off the paper and then puts it lightly on her knee.
"There all better."
She smiles as he wipes her tears away and then kisses her forehead.
"Alright kids, that's enough for today. Sorry Catalina it seems as if Mr. Teague needs his son."
Catalina looks over at the small boy and frowns then back at her father.
"Does he have to go?"
Her father nods and smiles sadly. The small boy pats her back then helps her sit on her bed.
"It's okay Cat. I will be back tomorrow and then we can play another game."
"Promise?"
The boy smiles and holds up his pinky, "Promise."
Catalina smiles widely as she connects her pinky to his then lets go. She watches as he crosses the room and steps a foot out the door. He turns around and waves at the small quiet girl on the bed.
"See you tomorrow Catalina."
"See you tomorrow Jack."
Knock knock.
Heavy pounds wake a young teenage girl from her slumber. She groans as she gets out of her bed and makes her way downstairs. Glancing through the rails of the stairs she sees her fathers door open. The room is empty meaning he must've been at work late again.
The knocks on the door become more desperate as she races down the hallway.
"Hold on!"
Yanking the door open, she gasps as her friend falls into her arms. She pulls him into the house and shuts the door, then drags him to the couch.
"Oh my Jack! What happened?!"
"Well it seems like one of the men at Shipwreck Cove were not very happy with a teeny mistake I may have or may have not made."
He smirks as she sighs but then quickly looses it when he feels a slap on the back of his head.
"Ouch! What the hell Catalina?!"
"You angered Rusty Kickers... Jack one day you're going to get killed."
Jack looks up at Catalina and grins, "Wait say that name again."
"Rusty Kickers..." Catalina frowns as she shrugs her shoulders.
"Love he's called Rusty Knickers."
Jack laughs as Catalina blushes and shoves a loose piece of hair behind her ear. After a minute of his continued teasing laughter, Cat groans and shoves him making him stop laughing immediately and hiss in pain.
"Oh shoot. Sorry Jackie I forgot. Here let me see."
Jack lifts his shirt to reveal bruises and a deep cut on his chest. His face had bruises also and he had a black eye. The man had gotten him good.
"He got you good Jackie. Why'd he stop?"
"My father came and knocked out Rusty. I could've taken him."
"Yeah maybe with a little more sword experience."
"Says you."
Catalina smiles then walks over to the kitchen grabbing the first aid kit.
"Alright this might hurt."
She had been studying to be a nurse so she was always the one that people came to for help. First, she cleans his cut then she pulls out a needle and string and starts to work on Jack's cut. He hisses then relaxes as he studies her face.
"Now it seems as if I am the one patching up you, Jackie."
Her smile lights up the room making Jack grin in return.
Hey guys so how was that? Let me know any ideas you guys have or just comment and let me know what you like so far and wish to see happen between Catalina and Jack. Thanks so much for reading and supporting!!
