13- Come With Me

Romeo's POV

"Miss. Simmons has been diagnosed with a heart defect called Valvular heart disease." Elle was laying still in bed as I soaked in all the words this doctor was telling me.

"Many of the symptoms are similar to those associated with congestive heart failure, such as shortness of breath and wheezing after limited physical exertion and swelling of the feet, ankles, hands or abdomen. Other symptoms and the ones that we found Elle struggling with are chest pains, fainting, fatigue, and fever." My eyes were trained on Elle's emotionless face. Even in the deep sleep she's in, I could tell already she was starting to isolate herself from reality, reaching out to pull her back here the doctor grabs my attention.

Pulling me over to the side with a sad face, I knew he was going to tell me sad news. "She was poisoned. Her blood work came back early and we found some dangerous bacteria in her system. Now do you remember her drinking something, or injection something. Did she go anywhere with mold or something?"

"She went down to the basement, going down there I smelled a mold scent. She was sweaty from working out." I leaned back watching a playful Jude who was smiling and giggling. Elle had to pull through for Jude at least.

Of course if Elle didn't make it I would take full custody of Jude, we already documented it. Alex at this point is non-existence after his stunt with shooting a nurse. But I knew Alex as a determined man and knew he wouldn't stop at nothing. Like his father and mother,

I felt as if this was their work, to poison Elle. Even though I really wanted to crush their skulls I made sure not to actually crush Jude here in my arms. Because I knew that Elle would come from the damn grave, come back to life and whoop my ass.

"She's waking," Aiden spoke and she groans loudly holding her chest again, she lays still before opening my eye towards the Doctor. "What the hell?" She mutters and I can't help but smirk.

"Elle can you hear me?" He asks and when she looks at him she nods, "Okay you've been out for the last 4 hours. You have been diagnosed with a heart defect called Valvular heart disease. The cause was, Bacterial endocarditis an infection of the inner lining of the heart muscle and heart valves. In other words you were poisoned by something in the last 24 to 48 hours."

"It works that fast?" Her throat was dry making her voice raspy, I hand her some water. She takes a second to drink, "Yes it does, in your case it was twice as damaging." Her face pales, "Where's..." She turns to me frantically and calms when seeing Jude and I.

"Oh thank god, hey Aiden." She grins towards Aiden who waves at her, "We all thought you weren't going to wake up." I chuckled along with Elle on that one, "Kid nothing could pull me from this world. I survived the worst and I'm still here,"

She sits up straighter before reaching her arms out to hold Jude. I gladly gave him up to see Elle's face melt. She kisses his nose and squeal with him before looking at the doctor. She was a beauty with Jude. I knew she would make a great mother, even with the dark circles under her eyes, restless nights, and constant feeds and changes.

"Doc what will I have to change in my lifestyle to maintain my damaged heart?" Jude fit right against her body while she paid attention to the Doctor's suggestions.

"No smoking and consume no more than two alcoholic beverages a day. Oh, eat healthy." He checks her vitals then says we're free to go after grabbing the discharge papers. We all relax,

Aiden went to playing on his phone, "Romeo," Elle whisperers and I walk over to her, "What?" That pale look came back, she keeps glancing at Aiden. "I know who poisoned me,"
