“Wake up.” Mike shouted from the door of my room. I jumped up in shock and fear there was something wrong.

“W-what’s going on?” I asked confused.

A smile danced across Mikes chiseled face, as he let out a hardy laugh.

“Wow. I didn’t know you could move that fast,” Mike laughed.

“Did you wake me up for nothing?” I asked irritated and tired.

“Not for nothing, I wanted to see what your reaction would be, and I must say it is very amusing,”

If he thought I moved fast before he had no idea the lightning bolt that was coming his way right about now. I leaped to the other side of the room, tackling Mike to the ground with a loud thump. I playfully slapped him in the face a couple times. I guess the shock of the situation wore off because the next thing I knew I was pinned to the ground with my hands pinned above my head. Mike scowled down at me with a smirk dancing across his face.

“How are you so strong?” I asked as his body loomed over mine.

I have always been at least two times bigger than him since I met him 6th grade, but for some reason he was always stronger than me. It was probably because most my body was made of fat and most of his was made of lean muscle that rippled on his arms and legs.

He ignored the question and stared deep into my brown eyes, “I’ve been trying to get you under me for years.” He winked.

I laughed, and his eyes flashed with sadness and grief. His smile was replaced with a weak fake smile as he peeled himself off me and sat against the wall of our dim apartment hallway. I rose off the floor to sit diagonally to him.

“Nothing,” he laughed.

“That wasn’t even close to convincing. I know you like the back of my hand, and I know when there is something wrong,”

“It’s really nothing, me and Zoe got into a huge fight last night and broke up,” he said coldly.

My jaw hit the carpet under me. What? Zoe and Mike are the perfect couple, they never fight. They are meant for one another. They have been dating for almost a year now. I loved Zoe, she was nice, funny, smart, and beautiful. She could literally be a super model, but she never took herself too seriously, and for Mike to take their breakup so lightly surprised me. Zoe was his longest relationship since I’d known him.

I guess Mike picked up on my bewilderment.

“It happens ya know. Some things aren’t meant to. be,” he said nonchalantly.

“I just can’t believe it. You guys where perfect together. I’m going to call her rig-,” I was interrupted by Mike.

“No. Eva. Don’t. This is really for the best we were growing apart anyway,”

I looked into his eyes, they always gave him away, and I only saw a bit of sadness, the rest was remorse, and an overwhelming grief. I wasn’t going to push him any harder. When he wanted to talk he would.

I crawled over to him and sat beside him taking his large tan hand into mine.

“When you want to talk I’m all ears,” I said lightly, with reassurance in my tone.

“I know you are,” he said giving me a weak smile, as he looked down at me.

I squeezed his hand a little harder, as we sat there in complete silence.

The silence was interrupted by a loud knock on the door. Startled I looked up at Mike to see if he was as confused as I was, and from the look on his face he was.
