When I opened the door to my loft the smell of vegetarian lasagna flooded my nostrils. I realized I only had a bag of chips for lunch. My tummy made a sound that sounded like an old lawn mower.

“Someone’s hungry.” Mike smiled from the kitchen. He had on a light blue apron that read ‘Cooking is hard, but I am easy’. I ignored what he said and started my questioning up.

“Where is Morgan?” I asked, so I can make sure it is ok to yell if I needed to.

“She met a guy at the conference and I guess they went out.”

Of course she did. Morgan worked fast and with doctorial precision. I asked my next question. The question that had been living in my brain for the last 30 minutes. “I just talked to Zoe. She was crying and told me that somehow I was responsible for you breaking up with her. Explain Lucy?” I said full of confidence.

Mike didn’t seem surprised at all. He flashed me his perfect white smile and casually pulled a seat out at the dinner table. “Sit. I made your favorite lasagna and I even went across town to that bakery you love so much and picked up your favorite caramel chocolate cheese cake.”

Did he hear what I just said?

It didn’t seem like he did by the way he was acting. I sat down at the table and confused as he scooped the lasagna on my plate and my stomach let out another loud growl. I still wanted the answer to my question, but I could wait until after I ate. I devoured the lasagna in seconds.

After I got my feel of lasagna I turned my attention back to Mike who sat in front of me amused with dreamy eyes. “So are you going to answer my question?”

“What was it again?” he asked faking confusion.

I gave him a look that read ‘come on’. He gave me a knowing nod.

“Do you want the short version or the long version of this fairy tale?”

“Short.”

“Once Upon a time there lived a girl named Eva Fisher and a guy named Mike Preston. Mike fell head over heels in love with Eva. The End.”

My throat instantly went dry. What? How? No? Mike is my brother. He has to be kidding … he has to be.

“Ok. Can I have the long version?” I asked feeling suddenly nauseas.

He smiled.” Once Upon a time there lived two 13 year olds who had been friends for about 3 years. The boy Mike had just started liking girls, take that back, one girl in particular her name was Eva. Eva was his best friend and looked at Mike like her brother. Mikes feelings went from like; to like like; to a love that was so strong he never could get over it. Mike tried to tell Eva thousands of times that he loved her but he could never quite get it out. So let’s fast forward several years. Mike thought it was time to be in a serious relationship and move on from beautiful Eva. He started dating a girl by the name of Zoe who was pretty, and nice. Mike tried so hard to love her like he loved Eva, and Zoe knew that he loved Eva and tried so hard to make him fall in love with her, but nothing worked. So they parted way.” He said with a smile.

I could hear my jaw drop to the floor.

“Why now Mike? Why after all this time? I had a huge crush on you in high school. Why not then?” I pleaded.

His face was flooded with shock. “I didn’t know you liked me in high school. I’m telling you now because you are about to start Lawyers without Boarders when you graduate, and I’m going to Chicago to work at a law firm. We only have little more than 8 months together.”

Heat flooded me. I felt sick. My head was spinning and my back hurt, which meant I was stressed. I had to go. I stumbled to my feet and started towards my room. I didn’t make it very far though because I was stopped by Mike who cut in front of me. I tried to push him, but I ended up losing my balance. Mike caught me by arms before I fell, and pulled my body toward his.

“You ok?” he asked in a whisper. His lips where inches from mine. I bit my bottom lip. Before I could say anything his our lips connected.

To call what we were doing a ‘kiss’ would be like calling The Godfather a movie, when it is a masterpiece. He devoured my lips like a man who hadn’t eaten in months. My knees went weak, and he caught me again before I fell. He put his hands around my waste I put my hands around his neck, as I ran my hands through his hair.

I must have unknowingly opened my mouth, because now his tongue was exploring my mouth like a miniature Christopher Columbus. My head started spinning, and I pulled his hair which only made the kiss deeper, and hotter. I moaned as my heart started pumping faster. I stumbled to a wall behind me, and Mike followed never breaking the kiss.

What are you doing? Stop! Stop! STOP!

My brain said, but my body said, ‘harder, faster, MORE! MORE!!

My body was at war with my brain and my body was winning.

Mike started to run his fingers in my hair and kissing my neck. He began to rub his hands down my back. He got to my butt and started grabbing it. I bit my lip. Mikes kisses traveled from my chest to my ears, and he began sucking on my earlobe. My body shivered with pleasure and another moan flowed from me. Why did I tell him my soft spot?

Mikes hands eventually found my thighs and he began to hike up my skirt. My brain finally spoke louder than my mouth. I pushed Mike off of me and finally caught my breath. I realized that I was on a door and I fumbled with the door knob. I finally got it open and ran out.

This was too much too fast. I had to talk to Shay. I needed serious help. Shay knew more about guys than I did. I’ve only had 3 boyfriends in my whole life, and she wrote a book about dating. I got into my car and sped the 5 miles to Shays apartment. I rang the doorbell and she answered within seconds.

“Are you ok?” she asked with a concern look on her face.

“Not even close.”

“Is it about a guy?”

“No it’s about 3.”

“Come in girl.” She sighed.
