It had been weeks since the disheartening disagreement with my mother, Demeter. Things haven't been easy since my basic walk of shame. If I am to marry someone, it will be of my choosing and not her's. Like I said previously, I will be stepping out of my mother's shadow and live the life I want to live.

"Kore? Are you in here?" queries my mother as she knocks on the albino white door that separated her and my room. She pokes her head through and smiles sweetly in my direction. I shift my body away from her and let out a big sigh. I was frustrated, furious, and overall moody. Great, I'm just like those mortal teenagers.

"Yes."

"I was thinking we could go to the Vale of Nysa. See your favorite flowers? The Narcissus? Poppies of all varieties, perhaps? Chrysanthemums? Or even those yellow tulips? What do you think? Kore, it will be good for you to get out of this crawl space and make an appearance. Your absence has been noticed. Look, I understand I am not your favorite person in this world...but you still have responsibilities."

"If I say yes will you leave? If I agree to go to the Vale, can I see my sisters without you hovering over me? All I am asking for is a little freedom to figure out who I am, mom. If you're always helicopter parenting me... I will never learn and never be able to do things on my own. I...I-I...I need to be my own anchor and have a little independence. Don't you trust me?" I beg as I flip towards her with tears spooling out of the corners of my eyes as I await her response. She pats her chalamys down and sits next to me on the bed. My mother draws her thumb under my eyelids and brushes the tears away.

My mother gives me a tight-lipped smile as I bring her hands away from my face. Tears were welling up in her eyes. She leans over to grab my pot of soil and does her magic; and suddenly within seconds a beautiful golden sunflower blossomed. "I want you to be happy my dear. My behavior as of late is not motherly as I'd like it to be. Let's go to the Vale, Kore. It'll be worth your wild. Your sisters and a couple of brother's will be there. What do you say?"

Grabbing the pot out of her hands, I admire the bright flower and smile back at her. "Thank you mom. That's all I ask for. A little understanding. Let me get ready and then I'll be all set to go. Okay?"

"Absolutely."

An hour or so later, she left me alone with my siblings at the watering hole. Aphrodite was braiding my hair with a slight tug here and there. I guess she isn't over the fact that both of her lovers or at least the men in her life asked for my hand in marriage. The elephant in the room hasn't been addressed, but she continues to drop subtle hints every now and then.

"Kore?"

"Rodi? What do you want to discuss? Perhaps the reason you've been ignoring me for the last few weeks? I didn't ask for any suitors. Your pal, Eros, is to blame because you were supposedly jaded. Yeah, I heard that tiny whisper from one of my informants."

Her eyes almost pop out of the sockets as she begins to choke on the air in her throat. Clawing the golden strands out of her mouth, she glares at me with solemn eyes. Rodi, a nickname we gave her when we were younger, completely stops braiding my long, majestic blonde hair to address me face-to-face.

"I wasn't even trying to talk to you about that. You wouldn't unders-" begins Rodi before I interrupt her and finish her sentence.

"I wouldn't understand? Are you serious right now? Being dispirited and only being able to hang with my siblings. Yeah I just don't understand, Aphrodite!"

She quickly explains, "The mortals darling sister. They stopped worshipping us the way they used to. I am the goddess of love and beauty and no one was idolizing me the way they use to. So, I thought if we could get the mortals to fall in love with the fair maiden...that they'd love the other greek gods and goddesses. It's not working thanks to Aunt Demi! So, yeah I'm a little angry about the whole suitor situation...but that is not what I wanted to discuss."
