Mary's POV
I was sitting in the car as Dean drove to a town where dad sent us coordinates to. "Yeah. You probably missed something, that's what." Dean said since Sam and I found nothing. "Dude, Mae and I ran LexisNexis, local police reports, newspapers, we couldn't find a single red flag. Are you sure Kara got the coordinates right?" Sam asked looking Dean. "Yeah, I double checked. It's Fitchburg, Wisconson. Dad wouldn't have sent us coordinates if it wasn't important Sammy." Dean said. "Well we're telling you we looked and all we could find was a big steamy pile of nothing. If Dad's sending us hunting for something we don't know what." I said with Kara still sleeping. "Well maybe he's going to meet us there." Dean said. "Yeah. Cause he's been so easy to find up to this point." Sam and I said in unison. "You two are real smart asses you know that?.... Don't worry I'm sure there's something in Fitchburg worth killing." Dean said. "Yeah? What makes you so sure." I said raising an eyebrow. "Cause I'm the oldest, which means I'm always right." Dean said. That logic makes less sense then the Coyote being alive in the Roadrunner and the Coyote. "No it doesn't." Sam said. "It totally does." Dean said. We soon drive past a sign that read. 'Fitchburg, population 20,501.' We stopped. "Mae wake up Kara." Dean said. I nodded and grabbed a whistle and blew it right in Kara's ear making her smack me. "Ow." I said holding my cheek. "Kara did you smack Mae?" Sam asked. "She blew a whistle in my ear." Kara said. We got out and I sat on top of the hood of the impala as Dean went into the diner across the street looking for anything suspicious. Dean came out with drinks handing one to me first, then Kara, then Sam saying. "Well...the waitress thinks the local freemasons are up to something sneaky but other than that no one's heard about anything freaky going on." I looked and saw only one kid in the park. "Do any of you got the time?" I asked. "Ten after Four. Why?" Dean asked looking at his watch. Sam looked at the park probably noticing the same thing. "What's wrong with this picture." Sam said pointing to the park Dean turned around and Kara looked where I was looking. "School's out isn't it?" Kara asked. "Yeah. So where is everybody? This place should be crawling with kids right now." Dean said to Kara. Dean went to talk to the lady I sat with Kara talking about randomness. We soon had to go to a hospital which I just played Kara's daughter. We walked in and Sam showed me his ID I laughed. "What?" He asked. "Read it." I said Sam read it and went to Dean. "Dude. Dude I am not using this ID." Sam said. "Why not?" Kara asked fixing her pencil skirt. "Cause it says bikini inspector on it!" Sam said. Kara and I laughed. Dean grinned. "Don't worry she won't look that close all right? Hell, she won't even ask to see it. It's all about confidence Sammy." Dean said patting Sam's shoulder. Sam went to the desk. Hi. I'm Doctor Jerry Caplin, Centers for Disease Control." Sam said. "Can I see some ID?" The receptionist asked. Dean sniggers. "Yeah of course." Sam said throwing Dean a dirty look and showing her the badge. "Now could you direct me to the pediatrics ward please?" Sam asked. "Okay well, just go down that hall, turn left and up the stairs." The receptionist said. Sam approached Dean with Bitchface number 10. "See. I told you it would work." Dean said still grinning. "Follow me. It's upstairs." Sam said. Kara and I followed Sam and Dean. "I thought Sam was gonna slap Dean." Kara said. "Nah that would have been me." I said. Kara nodded. We got to the pediatrics ward and I saw kids lying in bed sick. We found a doctor to ask him questions. "Well, thanks for seeing us, Dr. Hydecker." Dean said. "Well I'm glad you guys are here. I was just about to call CDC myself. How'd you find out anyways?" Dr. Hydecker asked. "Oh some GP, I forget his name, he called Atlanta and, uh, he must've beat you to the punch." Kara said. "So you say you got six cases so far?" I asked. "Yeah, five weeks. At first we thought it was garden variety bacterial pneumonia. Not that newsworthy. But now...." Dr. Hudecker trailed off. "Now what?" Sam asked. "The kids aren't responding to antibiotics. Their white cell counts keep going down. Their immune systems just aren't doing their job. It's like their bodies are ... wearing out." Dr. Hydecker said. "Excuse me, Dr Hyecker." A nurse said and hands Dr. Hydecker Forks to sigh which he does. "You ever see anything like this before?" Sam asked Dr. Hydecker. "Never this severe." He said. "And the way it spreads...that's a new one for me." The nurse jumped in. "What do you mean?" Kara asked wrapping her arms around like a protective mother would. "It works its way through families. But only the children, one sibling after another." The nurse said to Kara. "You mind if we interview a few of the kids?" Sam asked. "They're not conscious." The nurse said. "None of them?" Dean asked. "No." The nurse said. "Can we, uh, can we talk to the parents?" Kara asked. "Well, if you think it'll help." Dr. Hydecker said. "Yeah. Who was your most recent admission?" Sam asked. We met the man his eldest daughter is ironically named Mary. "I should get back to my girls." He said. "We understand that, and we really appreciate you talking to us. Now you say Mary is the oldest?" Sam asked. "Thirteen." The man said. "Ok. And she came down with it first, right? And then...." Kara trailed off. "Bethany, the next night." The man said. "Within 24 hours?" I asked. "I guess. Look, I, uh, I already went through all this with the doctor." The man said. "Just a few more questions if you don't mind. How do you think they caught pneumonia? Were they out in the cold, anything like that?" Dean said having a notebook out. "No. We think it was an open window." The man said. "Both times?" Sam asked. "The first time, I, I don't really remember but the second time for sure. And I know I closed it before I put Bethany to bed." The man said. "So you think she opened it?" Dean asked. "It's a second story window with a ledge. No one else could've." The man said. We needed to check the house. We were walking down the corridor. "You know this might not be anything supernatural. It might just be pneumonia." Sam said. "Maybe. Or maybe something opened that window. I don't know man, look, Dad sent us down down here for a reason. I think we might be barking up the right tree." Dean said. "I'll tell you guys one thing." I said smirking. "What?" Dean asked. "That guy we just talked to? I'm betting it'll be a while before he goes home." I said. We were in the little girls bedroom with an EMF meter and looking around. "You got anything over there?" Sam asked looking over to Dean. "Nah, nothing, Mae and Kara?" He asked. "Same, nothing." Kara said. "Hey Dean?" Sam asked. "Yeah." Dean said. "Whu. You were right. It's not pneumonia." Sam said seeing the windowsill. We went and saw a handprint rotted onto the wood. "It's rotted. What the hell leaves a handprint like that?" I asked. Dean looked like he was having a flashback. "Dean you, okay?" Kara asked. "I know why Dad sent us here. He's faced this thing before. He wants us to finish the job." Dean said. We left the house and got in the impala to find a motel. "So what are we looking for?" Kara asked. "A Striga." Dean said. "So what the hell is a shtriga?" Sam asked. "It's ... kinda like a witch I think. I don't know much about 'em." Dean said. "Well I've never heard of it. And it's not in Dad's journal." I said to them. "Dad hunted one in Fort Douglas, Wisconsin, about 16, 17 years ago. You were there. You don't remember?" Dean asked Sam. "No." Sam said. "And I guess he caught wind of the things in Fitzburg now and kicked us the coordinates." Kara said. "So wait, this...." I trailed off forgetting the name of the monster. "Shtriga." Dean said. "Right. You think it's the same one Dad hunted before?" I asked. "Yeah, maybe." Dean said. "But if Dad went after it why is it still breathing air?" Sam asked. "Cause it got away." Dean said. "Got away?" Kara asked knowing dad doesn't let anything get away. "Yeah Sammy it happens." Dean said fusterated. "Not very often." I said. "Well I don't know what to tell ya, maybe Dad didn't have his wheaties that morning." Dean said I tried not laughing. "What else do you remember?" Sam asked. "Nothin'. I was a kid all right? Mae wasn't even born." Dean said. We got out of the car standing with Sam. We got a room and walked in. I was sitting on the bed while everyone did research. "Well, you were right. Heh. It wasn't very easy to find but you were right. Shtriga is a kind of witch. They're Albanian, but legends about them trace back to Ancient Rome. They feed off spiritus vitae." Sam said reading his laptop. "Spiri-what?" Kara asked looking over Sam's shoulder. "Vitae. It's Latin, translates to 'breath of life'. Kinda like your life force or essence." Sam said. "Didn't the doctor say the kids' bodies were wearing out?" I asked. "It's a thought. you know she takes your vitality maybe your immunity goes to hell, pneumonia takes hold. Anyway, shtrigas can feed off anyone but they prefer..." Kara said reading and trailing off. "Children." Dean said and looked at me. "You are not using me as a sacrifice." I said and went to the bathroom and showered with the dish soap getting the last bit of brown hair dye out. I got out and dried my hair looking in the mirror seeing my hair back to it's natural color. I got dressed in my pjs.
