If you haven't read the oneshot It's Safe, I Promise by my friend InsanelyCoolRaeMell (why haven't you) then you don't know what this is. If you have seen my art book, you might know what this is.

Basically, Rae made a character named Charly after I made my mermaid boy Finn, so of course I ended up drawing them together and Rae wrote an amazing oneshot (go read it!)

So I decided, why not write the story, but from Finn's point of view this time? So that's what this is. InsanelyCoolRaeMell wrote all of the dialogue and the story for this, I'm just putting it in a different character's pov. Okay? Okay, let's get started!

Characters: Finn and Charly
Word count: 2,405 (it's a long one, guys)

I had never seen a Demishark before I met him. As a kid, I was always told to never go near the edge of the reef, because the drop off led to much deeper waters and the merfolk who lived there weren't exactly what you'd call peaceful. And for the most part, I followed that advice, but my curiosity and absolute inability to tell one direction from another was bound to get me into trouble at some point. I guess Fate decided it would be sooner rather than later.

"Remember, Finn, you're going straight to Aunt Aria's home. No detours," My mother told me sternly, pushing a bag of food into my hands.

I rolled my eyes. "I know the way, Mom. Nothing's gonna happen. Promise." I grinned at her before swimming out of the door. "See you later!"

"And don't swim by the drop off!" She shouted after me. I waved to show her that I had heard her, and the next time I looked back, I couldn't see home.

Ten minutes after that, and things had already gone very wrong. I had no idea where I was. I mean, I already knew my sense of direction was bad, but I hadn't expected it to be this bad. The coral all looked the same to me, and as much as I loved the brightly colored fish and plants, they didn't help much if you were looking for a landmark.

As I was looking around, something whipped past me, grabbing the bag out of my hands and swimming off. When I looked up, I saw a pair of giggling Tetra kids going as fast as they could away from me, the bag of food swinging between them.

Oh my Poseidon — that was mine!

"Hey!" I shouted after them, and I started chasing the kids through the reef. I was vaguely aware that they were leading me far from where I was supposed to be going, but I couldn't just show up at my aunt's place empty handed.

It was only when I felt the water suddenly get colder that I realized the kids had led me directly to the drop off. Looking around, I couldn't see the pair anywhere, just ocean on one side and the bright colors of the coral on the other.

Great. I lost my food.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted movement, but it wasn't the Tetra kids.

It was strange. I hadn't expected Demisharks to have such vibrant colors, or to look this much like... well, like a normal person. I had always pictured them as dark creatures, the kind that your parents tell you about when you're a kid and you don't clean your room when they ask.

I realized I was staring when the Demishark boy turned towards me, but I could tell he hadn't turned because I was there. I didn't even think he could see me. I swam closer, curious, and noticed he had an almost nervous expression on his face. And... was he shaking?

I decided to try to talk to him. "Hello? Who are you?"

He didn't respond, however, just made a noise that I knew meant he was scared. What would a Demishark be scared of?
