I was back in the courtroom sooner than I'd like. The defendant stand was becoming all too familiar, as I leaned against it to try and keep myself up. It had only been a few hours since our arrest: White had demanded that our trial began immediately. Our attorney was, surprisingly, Edgeworth.
"Defendants, state your name and occupation." The prosecutor, Marvin Grossberg ordered.
"Y/N L/N, lawyer for Fey and Co. Law Offices." This time my voice wavered, as I wasn't prepared for any of this.
"Phoenix Wright, lawyer for Fey and Co. Law Offices." Wright answered right after me, looking solemn.
"Redd White, CEO of Bluecorp, claims these two Guilty on the charge of murder of the first degree and attempted murder." Grossberg looked apologetic, but stern.
"Phoenix Wright, you may testify."
He told them everything in detail, from entering the office to noticing twine near his feet and the fact I held a knife.
Mine was different, as I included waking up and cutting off the twine.
"HOLD IT!!!"
I froze, my head buzzing.
"Why did you try to escape if you knew the police were on their way?" Marvin demanded, slamming his fist down. I looked at him like he just asked if the Sun was bright. "What else was I supposed to do, sit there in the same room as the man who tried to kill me and just chill?" I replied sharply.
"And why were you carrying a knife?"
"OBJECTION!!!" We turned to Edgeworth, "This is all irrelevant, you have no real evidence against them!" He growled.
"Objection overruled. Continue, prosecutor." The judge decided.
"Y/N had a knife on her, a weapon she used in the murder of Mia Fey and assault of Redd White!" Marvin declared.
"OBJECTION!!!" Edgeworth shouted, slamming his hands on the table, then taking out an autopsy report, "Mia Fey was killed with a blunt object, and Mr. White has no injuries that coincide with a knife."
Taken aback, the shocked Grossberg went silent for a second. "I call forth witness April May." He said.
"OBJECTION!!! Miss May has proven to be untrustworthy, call someone else."

The trial went on for what felt like hours. Eventually, it all came to an end and Phoenix, Maya and I were allowed to return home while Redd's fate was decided.I returned to the office instead, taking a seat at my desk, breaking down. I sat there, crying, for at least ten minutes before I heard Phoenix come in. I quickly composed myself and looked busy just as he opened my office door, leaning in the doorway.
"You... Uh... Okay?" He asked, looking me in the eyes. I avoided his gaze, instead focusing on the work. "Yes, I'm fine." I lied, gritting my teeth.
I wasn't fine. My best friend was dead, I had just nearly died and had to deal with court for so long, not to mention I was fuzzy and dizzy. I was just so emotionally drained.
"You sure? You look like you've been crying." He noted, pointing to his eyes. I paused. "Yes, I'm sure. Don't you have something to do, Phoenix?"
"Nick." He said. I looked at him, frozen. "Call me Nick, please." He seemed embarrassed, but I continued working.
"Alright then, Nick. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at home resting? You took a nasty blow to the neck." I said, not looking up.
He rubbed his neck, wincing. "Yeah, but so did you. You need rest just as much as I do, Y/N."
I shook my head, standing up to put away some folders. But I felt my knees fail, losing my balance as I braced to impact with the floor. But I instead felt warm, steady hands grab my waist, saving me.
I opened my eyes, confused, and accidentally locked eyes with Phoenix. Flustered, I pulled away and corrected myself, picking up the folders.
"This is what I meant, Y/N, you can hardly stand." He seemed worried, but I brushed it off and shakily put the files in a cabinet. He was right; I was battling just to stay upright. But I didnt want to look weak.
Next thing I knew, I was swept off the ground and carried to the couch. I protested, pushing away, but I was far too weak. Nick put me down gently and sat in a chair next to me, dark bags under his eyes.
"I don't need rest, I'm fine." I stood up again but lost balance and fell back on the couch, frustrated. Wright cocked one of his spiky eyebrows doubtfully, forcing me to lay down again.
He leaned back in his chair with a sigh, passing out as soon as his eyes closed. I sat back up and went to work again, my legs wobbling. Any thought of getting rest was far behind me while I tidied up, watering the plant and cleaning up the glass of the lamp.
I was halfway through when Nick woke up again, groaning. I propped Mia's chair back up, ignoring him. It was hard to think my best friend had died here just the other day.
"Y/N! I told you to rest!" He scolded, standing up and walking over to me, resting his hands on my shoulders. I pushed away, instead nearly smacking my face into the bookshelf. He caught me again, pulling me against his chest. I could hear his heartbeat, slow and steady.
I wiggled out of his grip and turned away, my face flushing while I repositioned the phone. I suddenly felt my conscience slip away as everything went dark.
