"Any luck sis?"

Rose lifted her head from where it rested against the back of the couch. "No. You."

Baylor plopped down beside her. He reached over and gently picked up Rose's hand. His thumb traced soothing patterns over the back of her hand before his fingers brushed against over the scars on her wrists.

"I've got nada."

A sigh escaped Rose as she let her head flop back. "It shouldn't be this hard."

"These things always are."

"I know, but maybe we shouldn't have shut out so many of those memories."

Rose felt the tremor that went through Baylor. She gave her brother a sideways look. Her fingers brushed lightly against his skin. Baylor shook himself and gave her a wan smile. "Would you want to remember everything that we've blocked out? I know I wouldn't."

"You're right brother. My head is just beginning to hurt from trying to remember that damn man's name."

"Maybe the two of you are trying too hard." Randy spoke up from where he was sitting at the table going through the sketches he had done over the years of the crime scenes. "Just give it a rest. You'll remember when you least expect it."

Rose looked at Baylor who shrugged at her. Rose gained her feet and stretched before she walked over and draped herself against Randy's back. Randy turned his head so that she could see the smile he gave her. Rose ran her fingers down Randy's cheek as she thought about how much of a friend he had been towards her. He had never wanted anything more than being her friend even when Rose tried to help him with the ladies. Randy never pressured her for anything even after that hot make out session they had done in the park that one hot summer day. It hadn't gone as Randy had hoped it would when the girl he was crushing on walked by. He had hoped that she would give him a chance since Rose had found him worthy enough.

Rose ran her fingers down Randy's cheek again. A thought long since buried tickled the back of Rose's mind. Her head tilted to the side as she studied Randy's sketches. Rose had been with hundreds of people, both men and women. She rarely gave herself pleasure, but when she did she thought of Randy. It was odd because he was her closest friend and they had never dated or even had sex.

Rose wondered when it was that she had started to get feelings Randy. She cared for him deeply, but that love was different than what she had for Baylor. Rose frowned as she watched Randy push up his glasses which totally made him look like a nerd, but he was a hot nerd. Randy would never be as tall and handsome as Baylor, but his height made him able to look Rose in the eye and his hair was that wonderful midnight black that Rose had always liked and it went well with his warm hazel eyes.

Baylor stepped up beside Rose. He peered down at Randy's drawings. His right hand settled on her low back. Rose paid close attention to the pressure and the way his fingers move. There was a question in his touch. Rose tilted her head so that she could look at her brother. All she did was nod. Baylor gave a grunt of surprise.

"What?" Randy asked looking up from flipping through his sketches."

Baylor kept his gaze on Rose. His eyebrows Rose and he blinked rapidly three times asking for confirmation. Rose lifted first one eyebrow and then the other before she let her nostrils flair. Baylor grunted again.

"Well that's surprising."

"What is?"

Baylor gave Rose a long look before he looked at Randy. "Just something that Rose told me."

Randy gave a disgusted sigh. "I really hate when you two do that. It makes me feel left out."

"We're not leaving you out Randy," Rose said quickly as hugged Randy from behind. "It's second nature to us. We do it without conscious thought."
