"Are you okay sis? I'm sorry I wasn't there."
Rose accepted her brother's hug. Baylor arrived at Randy's house early the next morning. He had let Rose sleep because he knew that she needed to sleep.
"I am fine Baylor. Just spooked is all."
Baylor moved away from Rose so that he could sit on the couch next to her. "Why wait until I was gone? We are rarely apart."
Rose shrugged. "They are watching us more closely than we realized. No one, but the three of us knew that you would be gone for a day."
Randy handed Rose a glass of lemonade. Rose gave Randy a grateful smile as she took a sip. "Whoever the serial killer is has to be watching us. That's the only explanation I have."
Baylor frowned. "I don't understand why they would leave us clues to a killing in our front yard."
"All I can guess is that the origami flower is a clue as to who was killed."
"Wasn't there a teacher who was into all of that stuff?" Randy asked from where he was slouched in his chair.
"I think so Randy, but I'm not sure who it was. Baylor and I were never really into all of that stuff."
"We should let Jim know."
"If you let him know then Ashton needs to know too."
Baylor's eyes lit up with a mischievous light. Rose frowned at her brother. "What?"
"I think someone has a crush on the KBI agent."
Rose felt herself blush. She ducked her head and stared stubbornly at the floor. "I don't know what you are talking about."
Baylor laughed as he gently nudged his sister. "I won't say anything Rose. We can't afford any distractions until we catch the serial killer."
"I know. That's why I'm trying to keep my feelings secret. I don't know how the serial killer will react and I don't want to cause harm to come to Ashton."
"Shall I call Jim and Ashton? I'm sure they have something for us to go on."
"Might as well Randy," Baylor rumbled as he stood. "Someone died and we need to know who it is."
