A Secret To Keep

Great, my head. It hurts every single time I wake up it seems. But it could be worse. I didn't have a nightmare this time. It could also be better. I could not feel like I was dying inside thanks to one grey eyed girl's staff. But I'll let that go. I look down and see my shirt's gone, and a small Celtic Cross is showing out to the world. I quickly cover it and look over, noticing the nurse. She has a name tag, so I quickly read Annie.

Y/N: "Annie. Could you do me a favor? Can you tell me how bad it was?"

Annie scratches her neck and looks into the air, almost as if she's running through a checklist.

Annie: "Four cracked ribs, one broken. Damage to internal tissue and nerve damage was abundant. And a concussion."

I nod and glance to my tattoo, and notice her eyes lock on to it as well, a grin slowly spreading over her face. She pokes it and chuckles, coming to a realization.

Annie: "So that's your name, huh? Why shouldn't I just expose you for who you really are?"

My face drains and I look around quickly. I'm trying to think fast as to what she could want, and then I smile.

Y/N: "You want to see my powers at work right? See other students use theirs as far as it can go?"

Annie crosses her arms and tilts her head. Nodding, she leans forward, intrigued by where I seem to be going.

Y/N: "I promise to get you data on every student I fight. What worked, what didn't, what their powers are, all of it. In exchange however, you don't breathe a word about who I am. Deal?"

I sit up and hold out a hand, my friendly demeanor completely transparent. She hesitates and I let my power show slightly, frightening her as best as I can. She quickly shakes hands with me and I smile, reverting back to my usual self.

Y/N: "Good. I'm glad things didn't have to get ugly. Now, mind handing me my badge?"

She tosses it, and I catch one armed as she tries to keep me down, but I resist.

Y/N: "Regeneration is another power of mine."

I stand and activate it, dressing exactly as I was beforehand. With a shrug, it settles how it needs to while I rub the tattoo, a burning sensation slowly easing off there. I look back to the nurse.

Y/N: "No one needs to know I'm Y/N L/N. It would cause chaos and hell for me. So don't be rash."

I walk out and leave the nurse behind, speechless. Glancing at a clock, I sigh and just head straight to my dorm, the clock reading about 4:10. School's been over for a while then. Guess I just have to work harder then. Eventually....

Eventually I'll fully awaken my powers. Until then, I'm too weak. But I'll save everyone I can...

Just like the disaster that gave everyone these powers.
