Eight Years Ago

Y/N: No...This can't be happening...

My eyes were wide and I was on my knees in shock. My right hand went limp and the knife I had at the time dropped to the ground with a resounding clang. I struggled to make even a single sentence as my eyes watered and my breath hitched. My best friend, the person who'd helped me train to get stronger, was impaled from three different angles. He turned back to me and smiled, uttering a phrase I wouldn't forget.

Francesco: My favor....Protect...the people you love...this is my final wish.

His weapon dissolved, and I saw the light erupt from him as it killed the three Shadows that stabbed him. He screamed and it became impossible to look at the source. It died down a minute later and I looked in his direction, only to see a bracelet he wore. I walked to it and slowly lifted it from the ground, putting it onto my wrist. The crowd of civilians behind me were all weeping in fear and sadness as more Shadows got ever closer. My eyes suddenly dried up and turned completely black as a jagged black katana appeared in my hand. I shouted, the air around me starting to crackle with visible electricity and a small crater appearing under my feet. I look back at the people once more, taking them off guard.

Y/N: I'm a lone swordsman now. I'll kill them all...They'll all pay!

I took off, swinging my sword and emitting a wave of pure hatred that cleaved through several of the Shadow Horde. I turned and stabbed another, releasing the fury that fuelled me to obliterate the ones behind it. I kicked one that lunged at me and its head tore off, piercing the chest of another. I stab the ground and cracks stretch into the sea of Shadows before erupting and forcing a massive chunk to dissipate. They started fighting back from several angles and I slowly was forced back into an open area among them. I grimaced and raised my sword to the heavens, emitting a shriek of agony as all of my hatred poured out, expanding into the Horde. I seemed to start dissolving to everyone watching as the Horde were disintegrated. I drop to a knee, dropping my sword and panting, until I spot a blonde girl about my age with a Shadow right behind her. I dart over, slamming into it with my bare hands.I hold it, its emmense strength almost enough to dwarf me. I manage to draw my sword back to me, running through the beast and myself. I cough up blood before disappearing with a massive burst of black.

Present Time

Y/N: And when I came to, I had no idea where I was. I was staying with this really nice doctor and his family for a while, but then I moved on. I went from town to town, city to city, never really staying long in one place. I took care of minor Shadow problems, but never made a big appearance. I somehow managed to attract the attention of the headmaster and received an invitation to the school the day before I planned to move again. With no better alternative, I accepted and the rest is history.

I looked at the girls, all of which were near to tears. Looking around, I notice some of the bystanders were in tears as well, and Emily had a look of shock on her face. Ark lunged forward and hugged me, burying her face into my chest. I look at her with a smile and pat her head, trying to calm her down.

Y/N: I finally understand. I saved you that day, didn't I?

Ark: Yeah. My hero...

I grin and slowly peel off, glancing around and seeing the others drying off their eyes.

Y/N: Emily, you should get your things before someone takes them. Now, where to next?

Hannah: Well, I think we should call it a day actually. We didn't expect you to have to fight. We'd rather come here and look around with you while you were relaxed. But if you want to keep going...

I wrap my arms around her and Storm, chuckling lightly before turning them to the teleporter. Giving them a slight push, I walk over to Ark and the new girl.

Y/N: You two head on back. I'll stay with Ark, and I have a feeling that this girl...Emily...has a few questions to ask. Don't worry, I'll come back and tomorrow we'll do something together. Sound good?

Storm and Hannah give a reluctant thumbs up before disappearing through the device. I grab Emily by the shirt and haul her to her feet, letting out a quiet grunt. I brush off my hands before feeling my left arm start to be suffocated. I sigh before snapping my fingers, drawing Emily's attention.

Y/N: Let's go, Aqua-head. Unless you want me to leave you?

I start walking with Ark before hearing Emily call out. I stop and let her catch up before continuing on my trek. We travel in silence for a few minutes until Emily breaks the monotony.

Emily: Wait here, I need to go put this away.

I nod as she quickly disappears from view. I tap my foot before glancing at the now nervous Ark. Grinning at a sudden thought, I pull my arm away and walk in front of her.

Y/N: You know....you seem tired. How about I give you a piggyback?

She stutters but climbs on, getting me to laugh at how easy it was to bring out her shy nature. Emily, after having me wait for nearly ten minutes, finally comes out and has a slight frown.

Emily: All done. Let's go.

We all start walking, but now an eerie feeling crawls down my back, causing me to look out the corner of my eye. I frown slightly at a moving figure that quickly darts out of my sight. I mutter to myself, trying to shake off what it looked like.

Y/N: He's dead...there's no way it could be him.

But there was no mistaking it. The figure, the sword, all of it. It all matched Francesco too well. I clench my fist before sighing, knowing the stuff that covered him changed who he was. I may have to fight him...but one of us will die if we meet. I'm certain of that.
