Zayn's POV

"Hey, boy." I crouch down, sticking my finger through the cat cage where a huge Maine coon is laying. "What does he need today?" I ask the little girl who's sat next to the cage.

"He needs his shots!" She tells me. "I want him to grow big and strong!"

I chuckle as I stand up, "What's his name?"

"Snuggles."

"If Snuggles gets any bigger, you might have to get him another cage." I tell her and she laughs. When I glance to her mother, I notice that she's already staring at me with a look on her face that I know all too well. I've had a married woman hit on me once while giving her dog a check-up. I guess I should be more flattered than I am disturbed.

I clear my throat and look down at the little girl again, "Snuggles will be next. My friend will take care of him." I inform them before walking back into the room with medication to treat this poor poodle's upset stomach.

Her owner pets him carefully. She's an elderly woman with a hairstyle that matches that of her dogs'. I've seen that a lot with older pet owners and it amuses me every time. "Is she eating?"

"A little bit."

"On a scale from 1 to 5, how much would you say she's eating?" I ask, just to be sure. Usually when they're not eating at all, they have to be kept overnight and put on a drip.

"I would say about a 3." She tells me.

"That would be fine. I'm going to give her the first bit of medicine. It's a liquid, so it's less of a hassle. Just this much in the syringe and then..." I open the poodle's mouth before slowly squirting in the antibiotic. "Easy peasy."

"Thank you so much." She smiles.

"No problem. Here you go." I hand her the medication. "Once a day, every day for a week. If she's still not better, don't hesitate to call, but I'm certain she'll be feeling better in no time."

She smiles at me sweetly before leaving the room with her little poodle. That was my last client for the day, so I'm officially off the clock. Once I've removed my vet attire, I walk out the bathroom and past the front desk where Sierra is. Not to be biased, but she's definitely the most helpful of the nurses here. I can hardly tolerate the others.

"Zayn, wait!" She calls me over, unable to control her laughter.

"What's up?"

"This guy came in earlier when you were busy and he was fuming." She says, but before I get to ask her why, she continues. "So we're like, sir calm down, what's wrong? And he's going off about how he can't get his dog to take the meds you prescribed. He gets down on his knees, gets behind his dog and tries inserting it into the dog's ass." She laughs and I look at her in disbelief before laughing as well. "I could not stop myself from laughing and explained to him that it's the wrong end. He left here humiliated."

"I wish I was here to witness that." I laugh.

"It was amazing." She sighs, "Enjoy you weekend! Got anything planned?"

"I've got a date." I grin, waving at her as I walk towards the entrance.

"Oh, excuse me!?" She looks at me with a huge smile, "With who!?"
