Footprints in the Snow (10)
Footprints in the snow
Two sets
along side each other
Straight lines
parallel to the other
Across the open field
Disappearing into the forest beyond
I drew heavily on my cigarette
and tossed it into the snow
watching Donna
as she stepped into her first
Footprint
She turned to me
“Come on”
I stepped into the first
Footprint
My foot fit perfectly
I stepped into the second
Footprint
My foot fit perfectly
Donna was ahead of me
carefully stepping into each
Footprint
I continued on
wondering
where the
Footprints
would lead us this time
What was at the end, This time?
Was it some
magical rendezvous place
or
a lonely, empty space?
I looked to my right
Donna
was looking at me
she seemed to be thinking
the same thing
As far as My eyes could see
the Snow
was undisturbed
except for the two sets of
Footprints
that we were now following
Suddenly
the
Footprints
stopped.
We stood in the open field
a mere two feet
apart from each other
“Want a cigarette?”
I asked
Donna
