Footprints in the Snow (8)
We walked hand in hand
back to the spot
where I had first seen
Footprints in the Snow
Every day
we made the same journey
never again
seeing
Footprints in the Snow
across the field
winter
turned to
spring
turned to
summer
turned to
autumn
turned to ...
Today
nearly a year later
we were here again
The first snowfall
We stopped at the spot
where
I had first seen
the
Footprints
The
Footprints
that would lead me
across an open field
and
back to the only
woman I had ever loved
i took a pack of
cigarettes
from my coat pocket
I passed one to
Donna
and lit it for her
She exhaled through her nose
I lit a
cigarette
as well and blew
smoke rings into the still air
We both looked out
across the field
Footprints in the Snow
Two sets
along side each other
Straight lines
parallel to the other
Across the open field
Disappearing into the forest beyond
I drew heavily on my
cigarette
and blew smoke rings
I looked at Donna
She looked at me and back
at the
Footprints
She drew heavily on her cigarette
exhaling through her nose
"What do you think?"
I asked her
She looked at me
a playful glint in her eyes
