I have... returned from my... unplanned and unannounced hiatus. For the months of July and August I will try to upload regularly, but knowing my.... history, that may not happen. BUT I WILL TRY MY BEST I SWEAR

But, for now, enjoy this somewhat short chapter that's just announcing my return :,)

(y/n) happily walked around the food stalls, her arms filled with various different snacks.

"How are you even holding all of that"

"Never underestimate my abilities." (y/n) replied calmly, as she somehow shoved a corn dog into her mouth.

"I'm not sure if you could consider this as working hard"

"Well, it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. How am I supposed to work diligently to protect all these people if I'm hungry? I've been told I begin violently flopping on the ground if I haven't eaten." (y/n) replied, as she shoved a second corn dog into her mouth.

"Do you?"

Just as (y/n) was about to shove a third corn dog into her mouth, she felt a light tug on her cape. She turned around and looked at the little girl in front of her through the little gaps between her stack of food.

"Oh hey, I remember you!" (y/n) chimed. "You're Hikari, right? The girl I walked home some time ago. How are you?"

Despite (y/n)'s efforts to appear friendly, the child burst into tears, and (y/n) began to panic.

"oh- oh dear, um- are you- hold on-" (y/n) muttered as she frantically whispered a quick "yrotnevni", causing a portal to open, through which she pushed her mound of snacks into. The portal closed shortly after, and (y/n) reverted her full attention to the young girl. She grabbed a napkin from a nearby stall's dispenser, and gave it the girl before crouching down and placing her hands onto the little girl's shoulder, trying to figure out how to comfort a crying child.

"What's wrong... kiddo?" she attempted.

"There was this big scary monster" the kid managed to say in between sobs.

"A big scary monster?" (y/n) repeated seriously. Hikari nodded before blowing her nose loudly into the napkin. She handed the napkin to (y/n), whose eye twitched as she pinched her fingers around the edge of the napkin that wasn't covered in snot.

"I...I see" (y/n) responded as she threw the napkin into the nearby trash can. She placed her hand back onto the child's shoulder, sneakily wiping off any possible germs.

"Can you show me where the big scary monster is?" (y/n) asked as she stood up and offered her hand. Hikari wiped her eyes with her hand, before latching onto (y/n)'s hand and guiding her towards where she had seen the monster.

The child led her away from the food area, and the number of people continued to dwindle, until there was no one nearby. The child suddenly stopped right in front of a corner.

"The monster was past this corner." Hikari answered as she let go of (y/n)'s hand. (y/n) took a deep breath in before approaching the corner cautiously, she looked to the wall, and saw the shadow of some kind of monstrous figure. She took another breath, and quickly pushed herself away from the wall, and transitioning into a ready-to-fight position, only to be met with a black haired boy. His purple eyes glinting with amusement. In an instant, (y/n) felt her tension dissipate.

"....Shinsaki?"

"We meet again." Shinsaki responded.

"...damn, you really scared me there for a second." (y/n) said as she let out a sigh of relief, standing up straight and into a much more neutral position. "For a second there, I actually though you were a monster, geez"
