𝟚𝟛𝕣𝕕 𝕞𝕒𝕣𝕔𝕙 𝟙𝟡𝟠𝟜chaeyoung hadn't moved for two days. she had spent the past forty-eight hours lay in momo's spare room by herself. no sleep. no distractions. no nothing. it was where she needed to be. just her and her thoughts.
she knew she had been abused. she knew for the past eighteen years of her life something had been wrong. but hadn't it been her fault; for her mother would never have laid a finger on her if she hadn't done anything wrong. she didn't understand. she couldn't fathom how such a glorified and passionate thing like love could cause her so much trouble. after all, it wasn't her choice. she didn't ask to be born this way. but she wasn't going to wallow in self pity. no, she was going to prove her mother wrong. because she wasn't going to change; she didn't want to. living her life as someone she wasn't would surely cause her more pain than being true to herself.
a quiet knock on the door snapped her out of her haze and a soft voice followed, "chaeng can i come in?" the voice asked hesitantly, "i brought you some miso soup, it's japanese, well you probably know that, but i'm japanese too and, well you probably know that as well, but i made some for you, i don't know if you'll like it but well i thought it might make you feel better, but you don't have to eat it if you don't want t-"
"mina you can come in," the younger girl chuckled, "and i'll eat anything if you've made it for me, i'm sure it's great." chaeyoung added as she watched mina place a cup of steaming soup on the bedside table and take a seat on the bed.
"how have you been?" the japanese girl asked sincerely, shuffling closer to chaeyoung and making herself more comfortable, "i know it's a stupid question but it's better to talk than to keep it all in right?"
chaeyoung reaches for the cup and takes a sip before answering, "i'm better now i'm away from her" she admitted quietly, offering mina some soup, who politely declined, "and i know it's not my fault, that the reasons she hurt me weren't justified, but she's always there. everything i do i wonder what would mom think, and i know i shouldn't but i can't help it."
mina reaches out and takes the girl's hands in her own, tracing invisible hearts on her palm's she takes a deep breath and starts, "i know you probably think i have no idea, but i know exactly how you feel. i'm not going to promise you it gets easier, because i'd never make fake promises with you, you just have to learn to ignore it."
chaeyoung smiles and squeezes the older girl's hands, "thank you," she whispers, and it's genuine, because she knew she would never have gotten through all of this if it weren't for the beautiful apricot haired girl sat next to her. "mina can i ask you a question?"
the older girl hummed in response as chaeyoung let her head fall onto the girl's shoulder, "what happened in japan? you said your parents made you leave for something you couldn't change but why?" she asked so unawarely innocent, "and how come you're all the way in america, and with momo's family?" she finishes quickly, realising she may have asked for too much at the sudden tenseness of the girl's shoulders. whatever story mind had to tell, it certainly wasn't a good one.
"your opinion on me would never change right chaeng? we're in this together, you and me, nothing can come between that right?" the japanese girl asks without taking a breath, turning to face chaeyoung.
"why are you saying all this?" the younger girl questions, "i'd never think badly of you mina i don't know what you mean."
"just promise," the girl pleads, worried eyes scanning the korean's face.
"i promise," she says wholeheartedly, intertwining their pinky fingers.
the older girl nods and begins to shift in her seat. mina's whole change in demeanour makes chaeyoung nervous and she wonders if she should have asked anything at all.
mina falls back into the bed and gestures for chaeyoung to do the same. they stare at the ceiling for a good five minutes before mina intertwines their pinky fingers and continues, "i've been with momo's family for the past six years. we moved here around two and a half years ago because momo's dad got a new job, and let's just say i'd take any opportunity to get as far away from my family as possible."
there's a pause and a sharp intake of breath before she continues, "they're not nice people chaeng. we had a disagreement. i told my parents something and they didn't understand, they couldn't accept it. and they were so mad at me, but i couldn't understand why. they told me to leave, and that i meant nothing to them, but chaeyoung all i told them was-," she didn't finish. she couldn't. the tears had already flown and the words didn't come out.
she sat up and wiped her eyes, "chaeyoung i-."
