chaeyoung's small fingers traced invisible hearts onto the fogged bus window. she ignored the mocking comments she received from older students and focused on the music playing from her walkman for the rest of the bus ride. she hated love songs. they were unrealistic and reminded her of how disgusting and messed up she was. not that she could ever forget. even so she still managed to get completely lost in the calming guitar chords and vulnerable tone of the singers voice. chaeyoung wished she possessed such talent, to be able to convey such passion and emotion by uttering a few simple words would be nothing short of a blessing.
the song came to a sudden finish making chaeyoung let out an audible sigh. the screeching of bus brakes replaced the calm, forcing the girls face to contort in disgust. she stood up slowly, slinging her heavy bag over her shoulder and grabbing her art folder from the floor. hopping down the bus steps a small groan escaped her lips as she felt a raindrop begin to run down her cheek. chaeyoung lugged her art folder over her head and began to run towards the front steps of her university with next to no protection from the bitter weather.
before chaeyoung could even process what was happening a small apricot haired girl came flying into her shoulder, causing both of them to topple over onto the soaking wet pavement. chaeyoung grunted in annoyance, and would have scolded whoever dared be so careless for if she hadn't seen the girls face.
mina. sbe was in the year above, a girl who was simply too beautiful to overlook yet far too delicate to ever approach. chaeyoung had spent many lunch breaks admiring the girl from afar, wondering what it would be like if she could ever pluck up the courage to go and start a conversation. however chaeyoung knew it would never happen, she'd always been a coward and cared too much about people opinions.
the older girl broke the tense silence first, and muttered a small "sorry" as she offered her hand out to the brunette.
"it's okay" chaeyoung murmured, grabbing onto the older girl's hand, perhaps for a little too long.
mina smiled softly at the younger girl and helped her collect the remaining contents of her art folder from the floor.
"i really am sorry" mina reassured, tucking a stray strand of apricot coloured hair behind her ear. "i'll see you around chaeyoung" she grinned, before running off into the main building, leaving the younger girl to stand dumbfounded in the middle of the pavement.

much to the girl's dismay chaeyoung had only one thought on her mind for the rest of the day.

she was even more beautiful up close.
