she was so hopeless. so stupid. there was nothing she wanted more than to go back a few minutes and get a hold of herself. oh how foolish she'd been.
swallowing the lump in her throat she clenches her fists dangerously tighter and takes a deep breath. composing herself, she begins to walk slowly along the path again. she'd come out to see the stars, so that's what she was going to do. with or without chaeyoung.once she's found a clear enough spot of grass in the park she lays down and stares at the stars, a deep sigh escaping her lips. the sky tonight was so clear and beautiful. it reminded her of that night in japan. that night. the night everything changed.

the breeze ruffled through the girls' hair as they ran through the park giggling. mina's cheeks ached from the stupid grin that had been plastered on her face all day and her stomach hurt from the constant laughter. it was all her. everything that made her happy seemed to find its way into this girl.
"sana, wait for me!" the younger girl laughed, running up behind the blonde.
"then don't be such a slow poke," the older girl teased, poking the younger girl's cheek, "come on, i have something to show you," she says, grabbing the girl's hand.
sana led her to a clearing in the park, then reached for a picnic blanket out of her backpack.
"there's a meteor shower tonight," she began, taking a seat and patting the space next to her, "i read about it in last weeks issue of all 'about space' magazine," she continued, pushing the bridge of her glasses further up her nose.
mina giggled, "you're such a nerd, you know that right?"
"hey," sana groans, "you don't have to stay if you don't want to."
"of course i do silly," mina says, shuffling next to the girl, "i bet this meteor thingy will be great."
"meteor shower," sana mumbles under her breath, laying on her back and looking up at the sky.
mina smiles to herself. she had become so dangerously fond of her oldest friend, but she simply couldn't help it. there was just something about her. she was so infatuated with the idea of sana that she didn't even care that what she was feeling was morally 'wrong'. she lay down next to the girl and breathed in everything. she could stay here forever.
"we have about five minutes until it starts," sana says, checking her watch then turning to face the younger girl.
mina does the same, and smiles brightly at her friend, "thank you for today, i really like spending time with you."
sana brushes a strand of hair from the younger girls' face and gives her a lopsided grin, "me too."
the older girl's cheeks grow a shade pinker and mina smiles at how cute she looks, "you're eyes are really beautiful, you know that? they're like the constellations in my space magazines."mina opens her mouth to speak but she can't think of a clever way to respond. she blushes instead and looks up at the girl intently.
"stop looking at me like that," sana whispers, pushing her glasses up.
"like what?" mina whispers back.
"like you want to kiss me."
mina raises an eyebrow, "would you be opposed to the idea?"
sana leans closer, "why are we whispering?"
"answer my question first."
the older girl's head lurches forward and their lips meet at incredible force. it's not mina's first kiss, but in the first millisecond she already knows it's her best. she feels like she could combust at any moment. like she could just disappear right under sana's light touches and soft groans. before she can even process anything sana's rolling on top of her and deepening the kiss.
she pulls her head back and catches her breath, "you're missing your meteor thing."
"meteor shower," she breathes, placing a chaste kiss on the girl's cheek, "and i don't care."
mina stays at sana's house that night; and it's the first big mistake that leads to her life falling apart.
because she hears the heated conversation between her and sana's parents over the phone that morning. she sees the dirty looks sana's father sends her over breakfast. and she feels the change in sana's mother's demeanour when she says 'goodbye' instead of 'see you soon honey' like she usually does. because she knows they know. she knows when she returns home nothing will be the same again.her parents are already waiting for her at the dining table when she gets home around noon. they don't even really acknowledge her presence when she says good morning to them, only send her a small nod.
"we need to talk to you mina," they say.
and her whole world comes crashing down.
she'd already moved out by the next week. her parents couldn't bare the thought of their only daughter being 'unnatural', as they'd called it, and mina couldn't stand the sight of them. her other best friend momo's parents had always been open about these sort of things, so naturally they'd taken mina under their wing. they were kinder than her parents had ever been and she was so thankful she finally had people around her that cared.
this small amount of new found happiness could only last for so long though. sana didn't show up for school that next week, nor did anyone answer the door when mina and momo went to ask for her. weeks turned into months and soon it had been half a year without any sign of her. the girls had spent months searching, but still no one could seem to tell them anything about sana's strange disappearance. she didn't have the guts to say anything, but deep down mina new this was all her fault.
the news that they'd be moving came a month later. mina wouldn't mind it if they were just moving neighbourhoods, she'd even be excited at the chance of a fresh start; but this was halfway across the world. this was different. she was leaving everything she knew behind and entering a completely different culture. she knew she had momo to help her there, but there would always be a piece of her heart in japan. and that part was called sana. she didn't even get to say goodbye.
mina sits up slowly and wipes the tears from her cheeks. she couldn't let this happen. not again. she simply couldn't loose another person she cared so deeply about. chaeyoung had become such a big part of mina's life that thinking about one without the girl in it just seemed wrong. after all, chaeyoung was not sana. she wasn't just going to let her disappear.
so she runs all the way back home. back to her beautiful almost.
