Alone Again

Lapis POV

Peridot had officially moved last week, it pained me as I tried to fight back the tears of watching my best friend's car take off down the road along side a u-haul. I bit my tongue trying to hold back any attempt of sobs an whimpers that occasionally tried to escape my lips and I can tell it pained Peridot just as much. as she tried to force a smile upon her lips, as she waved goodbye to me, I watched as the car gained further and further distance till it faded out of view.

Time skip

I laid there in bed, in silence, my cookie cat alarm clock ticking in the background, tick tock tick tock. I glanced over at it, time to get ready for school. I groaned internally and proceeded throughout my morning, breakfast, shower then brush my teeth, as I stepped out the shower I looked at myself in the fogged up mirror, staring at my blurred reflection. I slowly ran my fingers through my hair, my long black locks a tangled mess. I frowned. Eyeing down a pair of scissors, I grabbed my phone an began to look up hairstyles and came across one particular hair style I liked, except her hair was like an ocean blue and short. I pressed the link which sent me to an website with a video, it showed step by step; because I knew my mom wouldn't even take me to get an haircut, since she did not care. which she wasn't home again this morning either, she's been going out a lot lately an also noticed she's been dressing up nicely. My thoughts were interrupted as the video stopped buffering an began to play, I followed the steps by step tutorial. Snip snip, as big chunks of my hair fell onto the floor and sink, after I finished. the fogged up mirror was clear now, I stared at my work. wow pretty damn good Lapis, for an amateur. For once I actually smiled with pride an confidence in myself even though I had bags under my eyes from hours..days.. maybe since Peridot left. I checked the clock, shoot I'm gonna be late! an quickly cleaned up my mess,i dried off in my room then threw on my clothes, grabbed my backpack almost bolting out the door. I froze in my tracks spinning back on my heels, always, as I almost forgot to grab my friendship bracelet Peridot made me, it was black with green infused strings with a little cut out Peridot shaped pendant. Slipping it on my wrist I proceeded back to hightailing out of the house, making it to school finally.

Time skip, another few months

For the most part, everything continued on, pretty docile.i hardly paid attention in class now. A few times I caught myself glancing over to peridots old desk, there was a new kid now, he had black curly hair, wore a pink t-shirt with a star on it, blue jeans and sandals. Which seemed to be most of his attire consisted of during the school year, he seemed nervous everytime I took glances over at her desk, reminiscing. Today he looked especially nervous. "U-uh-uhm..." He stuttered, fiddling with his fingers, staring menacingly but not knowing.
"I-im S-steven...what's y-your name?" Stare. "A-are you La-Lapis Lazuli?" He asked "What?" I snap out of my trance "It's o-on your uhm..pencil case.." he clears his throat "Oh..uhm..yeah?" He nods a few times "Did I do someth-" he goes to speak but the teacher cuts him off. "Alrighty class, hand in your assignments, EVEN IF, they're not finished, yes you had all class period to do them an if you didn't, well that's a shame." Half of the class groaned, I didn't say anything because I haven't once lifted my pencil to the sheet of paper nor even wrote my name on it. Everyone formed a line to his desk turning the assignment he'd given us, the boy named Steven behind me. "Alright!" As he neatly stacked all the papers then placing a clip on the sheets. "You know the drill, line up outside the door in the hall, it's time for lunch! Let's go get some grub" Mr. Yaeger said a much older guy than Mr. delgato, he had to move back to New Mexico due to family issues which sucks because he was a bit more nicer unlike this new teacher. We did as told an proceeded to the cafeteria. I got my lunch an sat down at a booth in a corner by myself. "Mind if I sit here?" A voice said, I looked up from picking at the gunk on my plate, it was that Steven boy an I shrugged. He sat down with a smile but a nervous smile "I never got to properly introduce myself, I'm Steven, Steven universe " he extended out his hand, I just look at him an he retreated back his hand, back to picking at the food on my tray. "Lapis...Lapis Lazuli" I mutter lowly. Awkward silence. he stuffed his burger an fries into his mouth after finishing cleaning his tray of food. "Well Lapis Lazuli...I have a few questions.." I sighed feeling the since of Deva Ju. I shrugged "Well first question...i-i was wondering i-if maybe I..did something w-wrong..t-to you?" I glanced back up to him confusion painted on my face "What do you mean?" "W-well since I have gotten here an sat next to you..I noticed you..glancing over quite a lot an..glaring at me...I didn't know if maybe I did something wrong to make you h-hate me" he gulped at the last part. "I-" I look down bangs covering my eyes. "what kind of look..?" He fiddled with his fingers again "w-well..like.." I raised an eyebrow as he avoided my gaze then confidently locked eyes with me. "Like your mad at the world or something, like your going to murder me in my sleep but mostly...really sad..." A gasp escaped my lips as the heart wrenching feeling came back in an I immediately bit my tongue, looking down, dark. "I-im really s-sorry Steven..I had no idea it's just.." tears started to swell up in my eyes an my voice cracked. "Hey hey it's okay! Don't cry I was just..concerned that's all, if you were okay" "yeah I'm fine" lie, I wasn't fine an I wasn't okay. As peridots bracelet dangled loosely from my wrist. I wiped my eyes an fake smile "it's just my best friend recently moved over a year ago and she sat in the same desk, you sat in so I was just thinking about the old days. " I felt a hand gently placed on mine, "Lapis I'm really sorry to hear that ...im sorry I assumed that " "no no it's fine, I should be the one saying sorry for making you feel uncomfortable" the bell ranged signaling lunch is over. "Well we can be friends!" I glanced up from his hand placed on top of mine to his face, he smiled. A big toothy smiled an in that instant I had a flashback an thought I saw Peridot. "Y-yeah...I'd liked that...thanks Steven.." I smiled slightly a bit hopeful. "Great ! Now from on we are the bestfriends!" He beamed intertwining our pinky fingers, I chuckled slightly snorting. Pbbtt, snort "Yeah okay.." Thus began a new friendship.
