If I were the Devil.

If I were the Devil.

If I were the Devil here's what I'd do.

First I'd make the world think evolution was true.

That the Father was fake and his ways unjust,

then I'd fill the world full of hatred and lust.

Then I'd bring together church and state,

and abolish any idea requiring faith.

I'd load the media with so many false things;

wrong would be right, the people would sing.

They'd forget about mercy and think for themselves,

they'd work out salvation, fall in love with wealth.

Yes if I were the Devil, it'd be so easy to change.

The way people think; the cross I'd rearrange.

I'd invert it and twist it around and into a game.

Yes if this world was mine, it'd fall in shame.

And that's as it should be for this moment of being,

while my minions sneak and cover the unbelieving.

I'd pull back their belief one country at a time.

I'd let them build alters and drink up the wine.

Let them fornicate with whom-ever they chose.

In their drunkenness they'd forget what they know.

They'd worship themselves, stop believing the Son.

They'd live by the sword and also the gun.

History would be reversed to honor Only Me.

They'd roll eggs in celebration of bigotry.

And it would all be to late when that veil is raised,

I will proclaim their souls mine in their lost praise.

I would distrust them all, right to their face;

because they turned away from His loving grace.

Every chance was given to turn back and learn.

Every choice was made and it'll help them to burn.

If I were the Devil they'd be screaming thieves.

But I'm not, I'm a writer that only believes.

That Lucifer is real and has but one single job to do,

lead the blind away chained in a forsaken rue.

To shake up the trustworthy and lead them astray,

for the coming is silenced until the coming day.
