Once more, he starts to need the money she brings.
But this time around he's not angry about it.
It does sting his pride still, but he doesn't let it manifest into something that would disappoint her.
He doesn't want her to ask who he is,
doesn't want her to doubt him.
Ever again.
In order to be less angry with himself,
he starts to change how he thinks,
and what he does.
He glances at his phone whenever she arrives and notices she never stays longer than two minutes.
The only exception was the time she had arrived out of sorts and exhausted, and he thinks that may have been a ten minute visit.
She will sometimes come on the eighth day instead of the seventh,
and twice she waited until the ninth,
but she never shows up any sooner than seven days apart.
One thing that made him a little alarmed,
was that the frequency at which she arrived and immediately left...
started to happen more often.
At least she was still delivering to his face, he tried to convince himself.
He tried not to live his life around the seventh days,
he tried not to feel like he wanted to fast forward through the weeks,
he tried to practice his piano and write his music so he could be worthy of her investment.
When she lingered one day, he handed her a piece of paper.
"Read it after you leave," he smiles.
She blinks, her lips parted in surprise.
He feels disappointed in himself, for not being braver sooner.
So he tries to change.
