What is the internal psyche of the royal guard of Lelouch?
Heavily inspired by the anime Violet Evergarden.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Idolization is the best word to describe Lelouch's interest in his royal guard.

Ever since they were babies, both of them had these facts drilled into their skulls: Lelouch's royal guard was to be Isabella Blackburn and Isabella was to be the royal guard of Lelouch vi Britannia. That on his sixteenth birthday Lelouch was to knight Isabella and Isabella was to be knighted on Lelouch's sixteenth birthday. That when Lelouch became viceroy he was to take Isabella with him and Isabella was to be taken by Lelouch once he became viceroy.

That didn't stop Lelouch from have a sudden infatuation with his royal guard.

While the young, 8-year-old boy sat in the royal gardens with his sister, Nunnally, Isabella stood off to the side, not near enough so she could get roped into their game but not to far away that if something were to happen to Lelouch she could be by his side immediately, holding a sword that was practically twice her height.

As the siblings wove flower crowns, Nunnally told Lelouch about promise rings. About how when you put a promise ring on someone they are to be married to you later on in life. It's like a engagement ring before the official engagement ring.

Lelouch tied a daisy into the ring and called his royal guard over. "Isabella!" He yelled.

Isabella came to his side within seconds as she knelt down at Lelouch's feet. "Is there something you need, Your Highness?" She asked.

"Yes," Lelouch nodded. "Give me your left hand."

As Isabella did so Lelouch slid the daisy promise ring into her ring finger and once Isabella retracted, she examined the makeshift ring. "What is this?" She asked nonchalantly.

"It's a promise ring," Lelouch grinned. "Nunnally told me that when you give this to someone, you two have to promise to get married one day. I love you, and I want to marry you one day!"

"You shouldn't be having those kinds of thoughts," Isabella scolded. Due to Lelouch being 8, if anyone heard his words they might of cut him some slack and declared it as some childhood lovesick puppy crush, but if he was 10 years older and told that to her, Lelouch would have been quickly married off or Isabella would be sent away before those feelings bloomed anymore. Kill the seedling before it sprouts.

Lelouch looked disappointed as Nunnally smiled, "How cute!"

Lelouch felt happy the next day once he saw Isabella still wearing the ring he gave her.

*~*~*~*~*~

It all happened too fast.

One minute, the royal family were enjoying a dinner party. The next minute, terrorists leapt in and emptied their machine gun at the royal family. Isabella had leapt in front of Lady Marianne, who used her body as a shield for Nunnally as Isabella spun her sword to deflect the oncoming barrage of bullets as she took one to the head. As her body fell, the terrorists mowed down Lady Marianne and a few other members of the royal court.

Next thing she knew, she woke up in the hospital, bandages around her head as Lelouch dragged her away from it and onto a train to Japan with forged papers, as he and his crippled sister had been disowned and exiled by their own father. Isabella watched on the televisions on the bullet trains as Charles held a funeral for her and Lady Marianne, describing how much of a tragedy to lose Isabella, a child prodigy with the sword and the perfect soldier and his beloved wife.

As Isabella watched the report, she thought about the things she could never do. She wasn't going to be Lelouch's knight once he became viceroy. She wasn't going to be knighted on Lelouch's sixteenth birthday. She wasn't going to be Lelouch's knight at all.
