(Mackenzie's Pov!)

My little cousin is my best friend. She's always there for me and I'm always there for her.

We have always been very close... but someone is trying to separate us.

Her parents have decided to keep us apart. For many reasons such as, Hating my mother, hating me...

They blamed me for her acting out and acting shy. They decided to limit our contact but that only made us want to talk more. We had to talk over Instagram at first... until her mom found that and deleted it off her phone.

We then moved to Snapchat to talk. It was our only way of communicating.

We decided to meet up at a park on Saturday. It was gonna be hard to trick her parents but we were smart and our longing to see each other was stronger than them.

My little cousin and I were as close as sisters. We even called each other Sis. I wanted to keep her safe but... the way her parents were i feared they would hurt her. I hoped they wouldn't but I wasn't sure what they'd do.

My dad told me he'd take me to the park. We were driving there and I was listening to music. It had been a year and a half since we got to see each other face to face.

(Little skip.)

As soon as we arrived at the park I seen Emily. My eyes widened as she spotted me. "Akame!" She shouted running towards me. I smiled as I ran towards her as well. "Sis." I muttered as she hugged me tightly. I hugged back a smile slipping onto my face.

She pulled away and smiled at me. "I missed you." She spoke her eyes watering slightly.

"I missed you to." I spoke as her mother glared at us from the sidelines. "Let's go swing!" Em cheered as she pulled me along with her. A smile stayed on my face for most of the day... until...

Her mother made her go home. "Emily. We are going it's late." Her mother spoke looking over at me for a second.

"I'll see you later sis." Emily said giving me one last hug before her mother pulled her away. As they were walking away I heard my 'Aunt' say "she's not your sister. Don't call her that. I'd prefer if you not talk to her if you see her out in public."

My heart dropped as I watched the two walk away. I felt empty and cold inside. With each step they took I felt farther and farther away from her.

I wanted to be able to keep her safe. At least we could keep meeting up like this.. right?

Wrong. I thought we could do this all the time... our happiness was short lived. Her mother eventually found our messages and banned us from speaking. Her home life got crueler. We spoke a little... just on roblox.

We weren't allowed to see each other in school. Her father had the principal forbid us from talking or there would be serious consequences. Her father was good friends with the principal so.. that was set in stone.

Our lives seemed more depressing as each day passed. I wasn't hungry anymore. I was hurt... betrayed by my own family. My aunt.. and uncle... or so they were called. It didn't feel like they were my family. They hated me... I wished it wasn't like this. I want things to go back to normal! It's not fair! We weren't involved in any of the adult matters.

Our time apart seemed to stretch out into days.. days into months.. months into years.. then years turned into tears.

Occasionally we'd pass each other in the hall. We would give each other a sad smile before turning away.
