📚Chapter 6📚
Reminiscing In The Past

It is about three in the morning, as you stayed up, demanding to know what happened to your childhood friend. He started at how he met Rize to the organ transplant, the organ transplant to finding out he's a ghoul, with a whole lot more unfortunate events that took place.
"So, all of this took place, when I was gone?"
"Yeah."
"I knew I should've stayed."
"I'm glad you left. Imagine if you didn't, what would've happened to you?"
You opened your mouth to speak but closed your lips back together, as you didn't have an answer to his question.
"See? You can't even answer me. And the good thing is, at least I'm stronger now. To protect you."
"Are you happy this way?"
"Hm?"
"Are you happy this way? Like the way you are?
Right now?"
"As long as you're safe, I'm happy as can ever be."
He rested his forehead on yours, stroking your hair.
"Kaneki?"
"Yeah?"
"I wasn't mad that you kissed me that night."
"How did it make you feel?"
"It felt like the right thing to do, because it was. And  it.. made me remember the day that I first found out I liked you." You closed your eyes shut and waited to hear what he was going to say.

📚📚📚

You were about twelve, maybe thirteen. You, Kaneki and Hide were exploring the library. Hide went his own way and looked for flashy books with pictures and interesting covers while you and Kaneki looked for those thick books that never seem to end.
You and Kaneki were searching through the same lane and you saw a book that you really wanted to read.
"Wow!"
"What is it, (Name)?"
"This book, I've heard about it so many times. I have to read it!"
"(Name), it's so far up. How will you get it?"
"There's a ladder here."
"But aren't you afraid of-"
Before he could even finish asking his question, you were already climbing up the ladder.
"Well, I'll support it from the bottom so you won't fall easily." He held the ladder and didn't bother to look up since you were wearing a skirt. He was such a gentleman.
"Just a little further.." You stretched as far as you can, "I got it!"
You were about to climb down but then you realized how high up you were. You gasped and looked back up.
"Aren't you coming down, (Name)?" He asked with his hand over his eyes.
"I- I'm on my way- woah!"
"Oh no! H- hang on there, I- I got you." Kaneki ran to get some cushions and came back with the biggest he could find.
You palms began to sweat and this caused your hands to slip.
"Let go, there's cushions below here. Also, I'm here."
"O- okay!" You closed your eyes and let go.
Kaneki also fell as he was holding out his hands to catch you in case.
You immediately sat up as you landed, Kaneki did the same. You raised your heads and ending up touching nose to nose. After staring at each other with red cheeks for a while, you both laughed it off. "Thanks, Kaneki."
"It's okay."
Hearing the ruckus, one of the librarians came to check and saw the two of you on the floor with cushions and scattered books.
"Ugh, you little-!"
"Let's make a run for it!" Kaneki grabbed your hands and ran with you out of the lane.
You made it to a table and sat, "Here's your book."
Kaneki held the book out to you.
"Oh, thanks.." You accepted it with a red face.

As your eyes were closed, still waiting to here what he has to say Kaneki smiled and shook his head.
He caressed your cheek with one and gently press his lips against yours.
"I liked you, too."
