You're Here Now

     The news reporter raved on and on about
'The Eyepatch', 'Ghouls', 'Feeding grounds', 'Lives of women and children' was heard repetitively.
You turned off the TV, refusing to hear more of what she had to say.
"I have to keep on the low for a while, I'll stay here with you until then.." He sat next to you, sipping a cup of coffee.
"O- okay but, what if, you get.. 'hungry'?" You asked.
"I'd have to resist until I actually get the chance to."
"Are you hungry now?"
"A little." You leaned onto him, "How does it taste?"
"Hm?"
"Flesh. Its taste."
"It's undeniably good, but I can't stand eating it. Because of what I am. It's like I'm eating my own self.."
"I really can't explain how awfully sorry I am. I could've been your shoulder to lean and to cry on."
"At least you're here now. You're here for me now." He leant into the crook of your neck and gently kissed it. "And that's what matters."
     You sighed, knowing he's right. "And you're here with me now.." You rubbed his spiked, yet soft hair.
"How about a walk?" Kaneki suggested.

    His hand held yours tightly as you both walked through the busy streets of Tokyo. People gave you stares, you don't know why but you ignored them.
"The people watching us strongly, are ghouls."
"Ghouls?"
"They other two probably got the word out that you belong to me."
"Oh."
"Most won't even come near you, but few will take their chances."
"Okay." You said unsurely, worrying about the few who will take their chances.
"Permission?"
"Okay. But what for--"
He grabbed your wrists and pulled you into a kiss, 'So this is what he meant by permission..' You thought to yourself, smiling into the kiss.
   He pulled away, seeing your face redder than the
first time he kissed you in public. "I like seeing you like this," He tucked some strands of hair behind your ear then whispered into your ear, "I want to see more of you, so much more.." You lightly gasped, understanding what he meant.
   He took your hand and walked with you, pointing out places you and him used to go together.
"There's Anteiku," He showed you the coffee shop across the street,
"We never went there.."
"Hide and I did. That's where I met her."
"Oh.."
     We continued to walk hand in hand until Kaneki stopped.
"What, are you going to kiss me again?"
"I was thinking about that but, no." He said, "Look through there."
You leaned a little and looked, "It's just a parking lot."
"Yeah, the parking lot where I almost killed your brother."
"What!?" You tugged your hand away from him
"It was a few days after I found out what I was. I refused to eat human food, but then is where I found myself most vulnerable."
"To what?"
"Rize. She gets into my head and overwhelms me. I almost ate Hide but the good thing was a friend stopped me."
You were beyond shock at that point, you couldn't even speak.
"It it dangerous for me to be around him. I hope you see that now." He took you by the hand and gently tugged you as you walked behind him.
    He pulled you in front of him so he'd stand behind you. He whispered into your ear, "Close your eyes, don't open them until I say so."
"O- okay," you nodded quickly. He placed a hand over your eyes as you walked with him.
He stopped walking, "We're here." He said, which made you scared, wondering where 'here' is. He removed his hands from over your eyes, he took you to the top of a crane. You wanted to turn back as you were scared of heights but he held you  still. "I won't let you go."
He said, "Right down here, is where I though I was going to die."
You looked downwards, below was the construction site.
   You looked back to Kaneki, into his deep, dark eyes.
"Why are you showing me all of this?"
"Bacause," he started, "All of the things that happened to me all seems to be a blur, now that you're here with me now." He pulled you close to him.
"I'd like to let you know that I'd never leave. Promise me you'd do the same."
"A relationship like yours and mine is very dangerous. But I'd take that risk. By saying I promise." Kaneki combed his fingers through your hair that danced in the wind. You pulled him closer and kissed him.
This messed up world can't keep you and him apart.
