The New Soldier (Clemerva)

First Day

Ah shit here we go again

Clementine's POV

  The first thing I noticed when I woke up was the warmth of Minerva's body. She was curled around me keeping me warm. My head still rested on her chest and I noticed my leg had made its way over her waist.

  She was warm and it felt nice to have her so close to me. Moving my leg I made a move to get up but was held down. "Nooo your warm." She murmured against the top of my head.

  "Minnie we have to get up at some point you know." I replied feeling giddy as she held me tighter before she sighed and let me go. She stretched out as I began to sit up.

  "So what are we doing today?" I asked. She smiled and grabbed my clothes that I had folded and placed at the end of the bed. "We are going to go see Lilly about your job." She handed me my clothes before moving to change into her non-sleeping clothes.

  Nodding I quickly changed back into my clothes before moving to AJ's bed. He was snoring quietly making me giggle as I woke him up. "Mmm, just a little longer." He murmured shifting onto his side.

  "C'mon AJ we're gonna go get our job so we can stay here." With a deeply annoyed expression he got up and let me dress him. "Morning AJ, did you sleep well?" Minerva asked making her way over to us.

  AJ nodded with a small smile replacing his annoyed look. Minnie said she was ready to go when we we're so we left to get me and AJ's jobs.

  Walking through the community once more I noticed a window that overlooked the courtyard. We climbed the stairs that lead up to the room with the window. 'Must be Lilly's office.'

  When we arrived I was proven correct as Lilly was there looking through some papers. She looked up at us and smiled at me. "Good morning Clementine, here for your job."

  I nodded and smiled at Lilly. She looked at a few more papers before looking back at me. "A small group of us are going to travel by boat to go recruit from a school not far from your crash. We could use a scout and a smooth talker."

  Thinking it over I decided. "That sounds like something we can do." Lilly seemed pleased with this answer. "We leave tonight so be sure to have both you and your boy-" "AJ" "-alright be sure to have you and AJ ready by then."

  With that she dismissed all of us and Minerva began filling us in about the school we were going to be going. Apparently she once lived there along with her twin sister. I was about to ask her if she was still at the school but held my tounge when i noticed her saddened face.

  Remembering the way she cared for me last night I quietly slipped my hand into hers and gave it a squeeze. She looked at me with a blush and a smile before sqeezeing back. Our hands stayed intertwined as she talked about the school and lead us to the cafeteria for breakfast.

  She looked sad again when she mentioned three other people, her brother Tenn, her friend Louis, and her girlfriend Violet. When she mentioned her girlfriend I was at a loss for word, I didn't know how to react or if I even had the right to. I had only known her for a day.

  I stared at our hands that were still together even after she said she had a girlfriend. She seemed to notice my unease. She gave a small sqeeze to my hand before looking me in the eye and correcting herself.

  "Oh um ex-girlfriend." She continued like it was nothing but I could tell the blush on her cheeks was growing by the second. Although, I don't think my blush was any smaller. We didn't let go of each others hand until she left to go get our breakfast.

  She left me and AJ at a table and AJ began to ask what we were going to be doing once we got to the school. "Probably just scout around for supplies and help around the ship." "Oh is Minerva gonna stay with us?"

  "I um don't know we'll have to ask." Then Minerva arrived with food. She smiled as she handed us a can each. AJ, already knowing how to open his can began eating as soon as he got it. "So are you going to be with us on the trip?"

  "Yup for a little extra muscle." She stated flexing an arm and shooting me a wink. I giggle and felt my face heat up all over again. We ate with playful banter every now and then. AJ seemed to have taken a liking to Minerva which made me extremely happy.

  I haven't felt this happy with someone that wasn't AJ in a long time. We continued to talk until we finished our food. "Well I guess we better suit you two up for the job huh." Minerva said getting up from the table taking our trash and throwing it in a bin.

  She took us to the storage we went to retrieve our stuff from yesterday. There me and AJ were given two hand guns and I was given a rifle for good mesure. Me and AJ both still had our knives so we didn't get one from the storage.

  Minerva also got a handgun and rifle as well as the axe from our first meeting. She grabbed a empty duffle bag and we went back to our shared room. She packed the sleeping clothes we had used last night and a emergency first aid kit.

  Making sure we had all our things we went back out into the courtyard to see the sun starting to set. Minerva lead us to the dock we had to meet at. I saw Minnie's hesitation as we stepped on the boat.

  Not knowing how to comfort her I placed a hand on her sholder making her look at me. She sighed and put her hand on top of mine. "I just hope they're all still alive." She whispered, her grip on my hand tightening.

  I grabbed both of her sholders and turned her to face me. "Hey, I'm sure they're fine, if they've survived that long they should know how to take care of themselves. Ok?" I rubbed some of the tension from her shoulders.

  "Y-yeah...but I'm still scared about how they're gonna react to me." She looked me in the eyes, as if trying to find the answer. "Well I'm sure they'll be more relieved than anything." 'God her eyes are pretty.'

  She smiled at my answer before reaching her hand out to grab mine. She lead me to a room with bunk beds lined up against the walls. I looked around for a bit, then realized something.

  "Where's AJ?" "He went to Lilly to ask her if she needed help while we were talking." I breathed a sigh of relief. Minnie kept our hands intertwined as she sat on the edge of a bed. I sat next to her not knowing what to do.

  She looked like she was going to say something but stopped herself before she did. Seeing this I turned to face her, hand still in mine, and raised an eyebrow in question.

  "What's on your mind?" She turned her head away from me. Not wanting her to not trust me, I reached out my free hand to her cheek and turned her to face me. "What's wr-"

Minnie's lips were on mine. Her free hand was holding my cheek like it had the night before. Before I could do anything she pulled back. "Sorry I just- I thought-" I cut her off with another kiss.

  Her lips were soft and warm. They fit perfectly against mine. After getting over her own shock she kissed me back. Our lips moved in a rhythm neither of us knew.

  Needing air was the only reason we broke apart. "I uh I'm- I...I'm glad that you did that." Her face was completely red but I'm sure mine was too. "Yeah me too." She said before pecking my lips one more time.

  "I know we haven't known each other long but I really want to get to know you, and make you smile again." She smiled at my words and rested her head on my shoulder, and we stayed that way for a while, just holding each other.

  "I want to make you happy too." She said against my neck. I didn't reply, just held her tighter.

AHHHHHHHHHH I LOVE WRITING THIS AND I REALLY HOPE YOU LIKE THIS AS MUCH AS I DO BECAUSE I CANT STOP. Also next chapter is gonna be sad as shit I already have a plan and it's making me feel things. Angst will be my number one goal, if I make you cry tell me because that means I'm doing it right. 🌈🌈👌👌
