Chapter 8; A Sickening Reality

Stood alone within the MI's underground secured bunker, Megan Wright hated the waiting, but she was also determined to succeed this time around. Cain Pattinson wasn't about to slip through her fingers again. She'd make sure he felt the pain, which he'd once put her through.

The silence heavy within the underground secured room. The shrill sound of the intercom's phone was extremely loud, when it eventually rang, it's sound pulsing through the many speaker's.

Turning away from the holographic screen, Megan pressed the intercom's loud speaker button. "Yes,"

"Miss Wright, word is spreading that your services are failing. You understand that with my position, I cannot keep giving you second chances." The voice was strong and bold.

"I understand Prime Minister." Megan had helped the Prime Minister secure his seat within parliament, but not even he could save her now.

"We received an update this morning. Is it true that Cain Pattinson is back on your radar's?"

"It is, we have proof that his daughter is still alive and with him too."

"If you want to keep your position secure, Miss Wright. Then I would advise you to deal with this situation swiftly and discreetly." The Prime Minister lowered his voice. "If word was to get out..."

"It won't, I can assure you Prime Minister." Megan just couldn't see a way out of her predicament. "I understand completely, and we're already dealing with the situation, as we speak."

"For the sake of us all and for the love of god, I honestly hope that you are right about this, Megan."

Cutting the phone call short, the intercom's line suddenly went dead. Turning the phone's intercom loud speaker off, Megan released a heavy sigh, as she leaned her head forward.

It wasn't like the Prime Minister to use first name basis. But then, maybe he too already knew how the out come would end. What was there she could possibly do? Would Hayden ever forgive his mother, if she weren't around to watch him live his life?

On hearing the underground bunker's electronic doors sliding opening, Megan glanced up to see Decline walking in. He was the last person in the world, who She wanted to speak with right now.

"Bad news?" Decline asked, as he stepped forward and nodded towards the intercom's control system.

"No, it was just an update." Megan lied. She literally felt sick to her stomach, if she was to fail this time around, then she knew that her own life would be over. With the classified information that she knew, there was no way the government would allow her to retire freely.

"Have you heard anything back from the team, yet?" Decline asked, as he looked over the file, which was still on the large holographic screen.

"No, not yet." Megan gained a slight more confidence within her voice. "But then I don't expect to, as it's only been forty-eight hours. The teams link-in time to us, only open's every seventy-two hours."

"So, we're back to the waiting game." Decline clarified.

"Yes," Megan turned back to the large holographic main computer screen, which still showed the two image's of Cain Pattinson and the other of his daughter. "it's all a matter of us choosing the right timing."
