Chapter 10; Preparation
On hearing the front door, Cain got to his feet, as his daughter stepped into their run down apartment. "Riley?"
"Please don't start, I've had a terrible day." Dumping her bag onto the couch, Riley picked up her father's bowie knife, as she also slumped herself down.
"Has something happened?" Retaking his own seat, Cain watched his daughter closely, as he was searching for the tell tale lies.
"Not really, I just can't take it with the staring and with so many people whispering about me." Riley ran her finger along the bowie knife's blade, feeling how sharp it was. "It's driving me crazy."
"It's what happen's when you draw too much attention toward's yourself. Does this have anything to do with that boy?"
Riley sighed, as she leaned her head back. "Everybody within school believes that me and Hayden are dating, which is so far from the actual truth."
"And are you dating?" Cain needed to hear the actual word's from his own daughter's mouth.
"What? No," Riley swiftly sat herself back up, as her gaze landed on her father. "I'm not stupid alright. I know and understand why we don't get close to other's."
"Yet, you've allowed this boy to get close to you." Cain corrected his daughter.
"It's not like I asked or meant for this to happen." Riley spoke, defending her decisions and actions. "I just don't understand why I actually like Hayden so much?"
"Sweetheart, you're at that age were you're going to want to explore your other options. But maybe this is the wake-up call you've been searching for."
"What do you mean by that?" Riley snapped, as her boiling anger slipped through.
"Riley, you know that once I do an assignment, that we won't be able to stick around any longer. Maybe its just best that you realise this now and not when it's to late."
"We're leaving... But when?"
"We'll be getting this job done and then we'll be leaving as soon, as we possibly can. We can't afford to be tracked here and you know that."
"But what about mum's grave? You promised that while we where within the area, that you'd take me this weekend to show me where it is."
"I know I did, and I will." Guilt filled Cain, as he knew that Riley had her heart set on finally knowing the burial place of her mother. "Now, if you're really going to be doing this with me tonight. Then you'd better go and change, because there's no way you'll be getting into a strip club dressed like that."
Slamming down the bowie knife point first, so that it was left standing freely within the wooden coffee table. Riley stood up and stormed out of the living area. She was angry at her father, but she also had her own question's, which plagued her mind.
Their stay within the city had been cut short, for reason's that Riley couldn't help wondering about. Was it money problems? No, Riley didn't believe that it was. Had the government finally tracked them and was closing in? This probability seemed highly more likely, which gave Riley cause for concern.
Changing her jeans for a tight pair of leather pants, which contained slit's running up the sides. Riley swapped her top for a more revealing one, before pulling out a sturdier pair of metal heeled boots.
Rearranging her hair and makeup, Riley looked ready for a night on the town. The sun was setting within the distance, before Cain's daughter even remerged out of her bedroom.
Glancing Riley up and down, Cain couldn't believe how much his daughter looked all grown up. Year's had dwindled past, but still he couldn't help seeing Celia's beauty within their daughter.
"Are you ready for this?" Cain asked, as he stepped forward and handed Riley her leather jacket.
Nodding, Riley couldn't speak past her nerves. She knew what they were about to do and she fully understood what needed to be done. She just hoped that she could keep it together for long enough, so she could pull the job off with her father.
"Here, I want you to have this." Handing over the bowie knife, Riley took it carefully from her father.
"I am armed, you know." By looking at Riley, you seriously wouldn't have been able to tell that her gun was secretly strapped to her body.
"Just keep it close," Turning anyway from his daughter, Cain destroyed the last of the evidence he had on Travis and his club, before slipping on his own jacket. "you never know when it may become handy."
Slipping the bowie knife securely into the side of one of her boot's, where it was safely hidden from sight. More question's pondered Riley's mind, as it wasn't like her father to just hand over his precious knife.
Deciding that now was not the time to openly question her father's actions, Riley followed him out of the rundown apartment. Sparing one last glance into the rundown space, Cain's daughter closed the front door securely behind them both.
Riley knew that once they returned from this assignment, it would be the last time she would look upon the forsaken place. Even if she was beginning to enjoy her time within London.
It was once again time for father and daughter, to once again move on.
