Chapter 9; Not The Only Newbie
"So, when are we doing this?" Riley was stood before her father's planning board, as Cain stepped into the kitchen and started to pour himself a steaming cup of coffee.
Cain had only just got out of bed, as he'd spent many long hour's during the night, debating over his final decision on taking his daughter with him. Glancing over at Riley and seeing that she was already fully dressed, her father decided to change the subject. "Are you going to go into school today?"
"Do I have to?" Riley turned to face her father, as her body's posture sank in slightly upon itself.
Nodding his silent reply over at his daughter. Riley sighed, as she already knew that would have been her father's answer. Collecting together her thing's, Cain called Riley back, just as she'd went to leave the rundown apartment.
"Don't be arriving home too late." Scratching the back of his head with one hand and holding his cup of coffee within the other, Cain continued. "If you're coming with me on this one, then I'm going to need you back here straight after school."
Nodding her own silent reply, Riley left the rundown apartment without another word. On exiting the tall, old red bricked building, the sound of a revving engine swiftly drew Riley's attention straight toward's Hayden.
Hiding her enlightened smile and the inner happiness from just seeing him. Riley couldn't understand the feeling's, which flooded and seemed to fill her unexpectedly.
Walking slowly over to where Hayden's motorbike was parked next to the curb. Riley had to admit to herself, that he had some gut's to just turn up at her apartment. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to pick you up." Hayden pattered the seat behind of him. "Do you want a lift to school or not?"
"How could I refuse such a charming attitude." Slipping onto the back of the motorbike, Riley wrapped her arms securely around Hayden's waist, as he took off down the street. "You do realise that if my father see's you, he'll more than likely kill you."
"Well, it's a risk I'm willing to take." Hayden had never had a father figure within his life, but he could understand why Riley's father would be protective over her.
Whereas Riley had never had a mother or a single friend within her life, other than her father. Yet, even though being around Hayden felt really strange to her too. Riley also realised that she liked him, even if she did look upon him just as a friend.
Parking up in front of the school, many of the other onlooking student's wolf whistled, as they both walked toward's the school's main building together. Telling Riley to ignore them all, Hayden placed a hand gently upon her lower back, as he opened the door and guided her into the school's main hallway.
A lot of people were staring at them, whispering hushed word's, which made Riley feel rather uncomfortable and self conscious. Walking straight to their first lesson together, she was also surprised when Hayden unexpectedly took a seat next to her, instead of joining his own friend's.
"Why is everybody staring at us like that?" Riley hid herself slightly behind a curtain of her dark hair.
"They probably all just need something new to gossip about." Hayden reassured Riley. "It'll pass, just don't allow it to worry you."
"But we're only friend's, surely everybody know's that." Riley augured back quietly.
The entire room fell silent, as their English teacher Mr Dean walked into the classroom. Announcing what page to turn to, Mr Dean also started to address the entire class.
