I flew down the stairs, early on a Saturday morning. I saw my mom sitting at the kitchen table typing away on her small computer. Her glasses were slipping down the bridge of her nose, she was concentrating hard on what she was working on. "Hey mom! Can I go to the mall with Sam and Katie today?" I asked her, peering from behind the cupboards door. "Sure, do you even have to ask?" She said her voice getting higher like it always does when shes smiling and talking at the same time. I grinned at her at ran back up the stairs skipping every two steps.
We got to the mall and decided to get lunch before we went shopping. I grabbed my steaming hot Chinese food, and quickly turned around, running into a guy in about his 40s. The first thing i felt was the electric shock running up my hand and through my arm soon consuming my whole body. I gave out a quick whimper and flew back into Sam. I could tell by the mans facial expressions that he had felt it to... but it looked as if he knew that would happen. I backed away quickly and ran to the the table where Katie was already sitting. "What the hell was that!?" Sam asked slamming her plate down on the table, some of her rice landing on my forehead. They continued to question me throughout the whole day... sending my thoughts through a ton of twisted turns.
I got home at about 3 that afternoon. My wonderful mall day had turned into a day of questions and wonderment. I crashed onto my bed, not even checking in with my mom. The doorbell rang, which is really odd, it never rings. I heard my mom slowly open the door, I was tempted to peek out my window and see who it is... but way to quickly the door had shut and the house was quite. I climbed out of my bed slowly and sneaked down the stairs hearing muffled voices coming from the kitchen. My mom came out with a tear coming down her cheek.
"Mom, what's going on?" I asked her, my voice cracking. "Nothing sweetie, just run up stairs and grab my purse. We are going out to dinner." She turned my shoulders and gave me a little shove torwards the stairs. I hurried up and ran up the stairs grabbing her stuff, I heard the door slam again and soon my mom and I were in her car driving to a little Italian restaurant for an early dinner. The waitress led us to our table and passed out menus. "Now honey I have a lot to tell you, and not a lot of time so I just need you to listen." I nodded my head and waited to hear what she had to say.
I felt my head hit the pillow and decided to think about what my mom had told me. All of the thoughts flowed through my head. Basically she had talked all dinner about a school for "special" kids called Joeden Academy. "It comes from my side of the family... every fifth and sixth generation we inherit this special ability. Its you and me now. I have already been and it was the best time of my life... Now its your turn and I believe your ability will be ten times better then mine. Now your protector and your counselor want you to come to Joeden early and your counselor needs to head back there tomorrow... so he was wondering if I minded if you could leave tomorrow. I know this will be hard but it will be easier if you leave sooner or later. So I picked sooner." All of this circulated through my head.
I was leaving tommorow.... We had gone to walmart after dinner and bought four months worth of the stuff i would need. We packed it into five suite cases and loaded it by the door. I made lots of lasts good byes to my grandma and step dad and we even called my brother who is in college now. They would be here at six am sharp. I woke up in a daze. I had only gotten about a half hour of sleep last night. I hope that there is a lot of traveling to be done so that I can sleep.
I got up and put on my off the shoulder orange sweater with a eagle on it, skinny jeans, and black toms. I ate breakfast with my mom and made final checks around the house, checking for anything I may have forgotten. Sooner then I wished the door bell was ringing and I was answering it seeing the man with the electric shock standing at the door. He was wearing a black and white striped shirt with black shorts. I noticed that he a ton of smile lines showing around his crystal clear blue eyes. He was in his forty's definitely. My mom came and put her hand on my shoulder, they started into a conversation so I grabbed my back pack and headed toward the van parked out front of my house.
The van didnt have a door on the side closest to my house so i went around to the other side. As I went out of sight from the adults someone grabbed my neck and shoved my head against the van. "Get out of it!" He whispered into my ear. I sent a blind punch and felt it connect with a hardness that I knew was the guys stomach. He gasped for air and let go of me. I thought he was crying but I realized he was laughing. "You passed test one." He said sending me a smile that made my heart melt. This kid had to be about 18, he had sparkling green eyes and black hair that was quiffed in the front. He was wearing a black v-neck, cacky jeans, and black converse high tops.
I just kinda smiled at him, clearly confused. "I'm Shane." He said out stretching his hand, so I shaked it. "My names Sara." I smiled at him. He threw his arm around my shoulders and led me back to where my mom and the guy was. The man turned, "Sorry I didnt introduce myself, I wanted you to go take your first test. My names Patrick." I shook his hand aswell and told him my name. I was proud of my mom, she was only crying a little. Before I knew it we were climbing into the van, waving goodbye to my mom. I didnt let myself cry.
I fell asleep in the car and was soon waken up by Shane throwing things at me. "What the..." I trailed off seeing him aiming a handful of skittles at me. I ducked giving out a little yelp as the skittles whizzed by my ear. I jumped up and grabbed Shane's hand restricting him from throwing anymore. 'Were at the airport." He laughed at me pulling away easily from my grip and sliding out the van door grabbing my back pack. "Wheres Patrick?" I asked, looking around. "Hes taking care of the immense amount of luggage you brought." He teased me. I still didn't know who he was or what he meant to me in this new crazy life. We boarded the plane when Patrick got back and were soon taking off.
Maybe this will go ok. I thought as I faded into sleep.
