"We're here." Zeynep said as she parked and looked to the passenger side, where Emir was still sleeping. He woke up confused when the horn beeped loud.
"Huh! Where are we?" Emir looked around outside but then his eyes locked on the house before him.
"Zeynep where are we?" He asked her, now awake and slightly getting mad.
Zeynep turned off the engine and pulled the keys out. Ignoring Emir, she fixed herself in the mirror on the shade. She touched up her makeup and finally looked at Emir with a smile.
"I think you know where we are."
And she left the car.
Emir followed after her and quickly fixed himself before they were at the door.
"Ready?" Zeynep asked him and he nodded.
She rang the bell.
Zehra opened the door.
"Zeynep ma'am! You're here! Happy birthday ma'am!" she said and hugged her.
"Thank you Zehra. Is she awake?" Zeynep said as she came in.
"Yes. She's waiting."
"Oh good. I'm not alone today!"
Zehra was excited to hear that but when she saw Emir, she became afraid.
"E... Emir bey!" She stuttered.
"Zehra. I see you met my wife."
"Yes sir. Sh... she followed you here some months ago and now she and Mugjan ma'am are good friends."
"I see. Let's go see her then, yes?"
"This way, sir."
They went to the living room where Zeynep was already sitting happily talking with Emir's mom. Mugjan noticed Emir come in and she smiled to see her son. Emir came to hug and kiss his mom then sat far on a one seater. Mugjan frowned at him and motioned with her eyes towards Zeynep.
"I see you met Zeynep."
Mugjan smiled to Zeynep then glared at Emir again.
"What! I was going to bring her. I... just got busy."
Finally Mugjan gave up and smiled at Emir finally.
"Dinner's ready. Please come."
They got up to go and Emir wheeled his mom to the dining room with them. Zeynep sat next to Mugjan and Emir was about to make a plate for his mom, but Zeynep took all responsibility. Emir was surprised and sat back watching his wife take care of his mom.
Dinner ended and Zehra brought out a beautiful chocolate cake for Zeynep's birthday. They put on candles for her too. Zeynep was so happy. Mugjan slipped her hand on Emir's leg and encouraged him to participate in the celebration. He rolled his eyes but clapped and sang with Zehra as Zeynep cut the cake. The birthday girl cut a piece and fed the first bite to her mother in law. She attempted to give Zehra a bite, but the maid encouraged her to feed Emir instead.
Zeynep blushed, but still fed Emir the second bite. Emir then awkwardly took the slice and fed it to the birthday girl. Behind them, Mugjan eyed to Zehra to get Zeynep's birthday gift. Everyone was sitting with their own cake slice and tea when Zehra came back with two gifts. The one from Zehra was a dress shirt in Zeynep's favorite color. Zeynep loved it. But Mugjan's gift was something VERY special. It was a beautiful, expensive jewel bracelet.
"Wow! This is... this is beautiful! I can't take this." She tried to give it back but Zehra stopped her.
"It is tradition for the mother to give her new daughter in law a family jewel. Ma'am couldn't give it to you on the wedding, so she's giving it to you now. Emir bey's grandmother gave it to her, now it is yours."
Zeynep looked to Emir to ask final permission, and Emir nodded for her to accept it. Zeynep was happy crying and gave Mugjan a hug.
A clock beeped.
"That is ma'am's bed time. I will take her now. Will you two stay or leave?"
Emir and Zeynep looked at each other and agreed to stay. They kissed mom goodnight and let Zehra take her in. Now Zeynep and Emir were finally alone.
"So, how did you find this place?"
"Remember that day I wanted to have lunch with you? Well, I saw you leaving and followed you here."
"And you didn't tell me why?"
"I didn't know how you would feel, so I brought you when you couldn't be mad at me."
Emir laughed a bit.
"Good thinking. But I'd appreciate it if our fathers didn't find out."
"I promise."
"Good. The room's upstairs, second on your right. I'm gonna have a minute with my mom."
"Of course. Good night."
Zeynep left him and followed the direction to the other room. She walked in and turned on the light, and she was surprised.
It was Emir's room...
