Hermione chewed on her lip as she ate breakfast with Ginny. All the dark-skinned girl wanted to think about was the Slytherin. She shouldn't have been, she knew it was a mistake to dwell. The last thing anyone needed was for Hermione Granger to lose focus on her studies. At least, that's what Hermione thought. Her curly hair sat in a half bun on top of her head as she stared at the empty plate in front of her. When Ginny pointed out that she needed to eat something, Hermione grabbed a piece of bacon, making a dramatic point of showing her red haired friend that she was eating it.
Even though she knew she shouldn't, Hermione also caught herself longing for Ron and Harry to be sitting in front of her, eating disgustingly fast and talking with food in their mouths. She noticed the duo sitting in front of Neville Longbottom, who had grown quite tall in his time away from Hogwarts. Not wanting to get caught, Hermione's eyes wandered curiously over to the Slytherin table, where a mass of long black hair was spotted beside platinum blonde. A frown creased bronzed skin as Hermione became upset. How could I be so stupid? she thought, Of course, she's back with Malfoy, probably flirting her way to Azkaban. Hermione was shocked at her thoughts. She hadn't meant to be so rude, even if Pansy couldn't hear her, she still felt the need to apologize.
In all truth, Pansy and Draco sat at the Slytherin table in silence, surrounded by noise. Their heads hung low and Pansy had to reach over multiple times to stop Draco from scratching his Dark Mark. The black haired girl wanted nothing more than to stare at the beauty called Hermione Granger all day. She wondered if Hermione was thinking about her too. A small smile formed at the idea of the brightest witch's thoughts being consumed by Pansy.
No one wanted to admit that they were nervous when it came time for first hour. Hermione began her day with N.E.W.T Transfiguration. Professor McGonagall smiled at the young witch as she entered the class; Hermione noticed a seat beside Pansy and decided to take it.
"Well Hello Gr-Hermione," Pansy smiled as she greeted the girl opposite her.
"Good morning Pansy. How are you?" even though she knew Pansy hadn't heard her earlier thoughts, Hermione felt a responsibility to be as nice as she could to the Slytherin, in hopes her thoughts would not be that rude again.
"I'm well and you?" Hermione did not get to answer because, at that moment, McGonagall decided to start the lesson. Hermione only smiled at Pansy. Pansy felt butterflies.
After a long first day, Hermione Granger cried. She cried because she knew that she would never get to share her first day back at Hogwarts with her parents, or Lupin, or even Fred. Hermione Granger cried at the dark thoughts that had become part of her everyday life. She cried for the losses she experience, that never seemed to stop. As she sat on the ledge, teary eyes looking at the stars, Hermione thought for a split second she could see a constellation that looked like Sirius Black's face. She smiled for a second, but frowned again when she remembered he would never hear about it.
Pansy Parkinson didn't cry. She didn't cry when her classmates died at the second Battle of Hogwarts, or when her parents were sent to Azkaban, or even when she learned that her best friend felt the need to harm himself because of a permanent mark. However, after the first day back at Hogwarts, seeing the lifelessness that followed everyone like a dark cloud, Pansy Parkinson cried. Not even cried, no, Pansy Parkinson sobbed. She walked, almost on autopilot, to the ledge she had sat on the previous night. She figured Hermione would also be there, also crying, probably.
"Nowhere else to go?" Hermione's soft voice almost sounded angelic. Her appearance was almost ethereal in Pansy's eyes.
Pansy gave a small chuckle and answered, "Not necessarily."
Hermione turned back to look at the other witch. Her silk pajamas gave off the appearance of a 1950s Hollywood actress, or maybe even goddess. She gave a half smile and asked, "Then why are you here Pansy?"
Pansy's dark brown eyes looked at the ground as her lip was caught between her teeth while she scavenged for an answer. It only seemed natural for the words "I need to feel you" to roll off her tongue.
Hermione's eyebrows came together in confusion as she turned around, cheeks heated by embarrassment. "What do you mean?" she asked.
A sharp sigh came out of Pansy's mouth as she answered, "I mean I need to feel you."
Long legs quickly threw themselves over the cement ledge as Hermione made her way to Pansy in the doorway. Pansy quickly made the decision to push her lips against Hermione's as she got the chance. Bronzed hands grabbed at a pale face in order to gain contact. Both women pushed themselves against each other, neither wanting any loss of contact. Pansy's long fingers found their way into Hermione's thick hair. Both of them reached for each other, grasping and pulling, only wanting to feel something and never let go.
